Studying Tips

What is the best way to study for vocab? I have Barrons and Big Book but I don't really know the best way to memorize words! I have a horrible memory also!

Thanks!

Study on increment fashion, memorize 30 words (for example) per day, then on the next day revise all the words you have learnt on the previous days. Next start to work out antonyms problems so you learn new vocabulary and their opposites ... I know it's a long road ... but once you catch up, it will be less exhausting.

Good Luck!

That's what I have noticed about my experience - after 5-7 days of memorizing the words the brain gets used to it, so that it becomes easier to remember any number of words want.
Just make sure you revise them, as Luma mentioned.
So don't freak out, you'll get it

Moreover, you don't have to go through the lists alphabetically, this is frustrating specially if you take a look of how many list are left. I used to pick a letter and study one list and move to another letter so I cover words from different letters.

I suggest that you combine the BB and Barron's lists and attack them ... as I said in my previous posts, although I memorized the Barron's 4000 I stopped short when I encountered a non Barron's word which turned at the end to be very easy and common however I didn't know what does it mean

Luma, where can I find the Barron's 4000? I'm only using the Barron's Essential Words for the GRE (800 words)...

walt526 is almost a TestMagic guru.
The British sometimes use "revise" as a synonym for "review." It's not usually used for that purpose in North America (revise means alter/improve/update).

I meant make a revision
There's a huge Antonym post (to be honest, I haven't got the chance to go through them) :

Dr Raju's Institute of Graduate Studies Abroad :: View topic - GRE ANTONYMS

Good Luck!

Flash cards work great, if you have the time to create them.

Those suggestions were really great. I started enthusiastically in the beginning but now its depreciating I haven't touched the book for two days not even a word. Can anyone suggest me a best practice to keep motivated throughout the ride.
