just arrived at this forum. i have some few basic doubts!

• is GRE the only fact considered for applicants or do they look at other aspects of the profile of the candidate?
• Do the universities consider GRE marks for scholarships?
• if by chance the first time doesn't go as expected, can we retake the test? do they consider the best of two or the better one?
• for an engineering student how much is the average verbal score expected?

No. letter of reference, statement of purpose, GPA, publications all have important roles.

Again GRE and the other aspects collectively are considered.

Yes.

It depends on the school's policy. Some take the highest while others take the average.

It depends on the schools where you intend to apply.

^Luma's responses may seem vague, but its the best your going to get. The long story short is "it depends" Every school does things differently, and you should try to find a school with a department that fits your interest, and THEN look at their requirements and the like. Contact them and ask what sort of scores they accept or the scores they look it. Some will know, some won't, but it will give you a ballpark.

As for retaking, yes, you can. Study hard your first time so you don't have to- by the end of it you'll be praying you never have to go through it again, so don't get complacent just because you can do it again.
