Register for two exams?
Hi!
I have a question: As I live in Europe, where country-borders are always close, I have the opportunity to choose between taking the paper- and the computer-based version of the GRE. The paper-based test would be held in the city where I live, which is of course convenient, but the next exam date is only in early february. I haven't really started preparing the test, so this date would give me ample time for preparation, but it's pretty late for all the applications, I'm afraid (I would like to do a Master's programme in Economics either in Europe or Australia, or go right for a PhD in the US, depending on where I get accepted and on what conditions). Or I could also take the test in a city 400km from here, where the computer-based test is offerd. Thus I could register for the test in early december, which should be just on time for the applications and would still give me some time to prepare it. However, the idea of registering for both - a computer-based test in early december or even late november and a paper-based in february - has crossed my mind. That way, I'd have a score at hand for registrations that close early and I'd have a second attempt to probably better my results (which I could also use for applications in following years). Besides the fact that I'd have to pay for the test twice (which is a bit of a concern to me), do you think that this idea makes sense? Do you think there is in fact much room for improvement in only one month (I don't count some weeks in december, as they're always a busy time for me)? And the more important question: would those institutions to which I've sent the first results even take the second ones into account (if they haven't already decided)? |
