Best book for my specific GRE problem
Hi guys,
I need your opinions and advice. I took the GRE a couple of years ago, prior to my master's in my home country, I used the GRE 'for dummies' book, and got every single question in the book right first time, no problems and was finished with the practice tests with 10 minutes to spare... However, when I went to take the exam, the questions were much harder overall than the practice book. Becuase they took me longer than the practice questions, I ran out of time at the end, meaning I had to guess the answer to the last 2 questions to finish the exam. I scored 780Q, with 630V and 5.0AWA. At first I was happy with my GRE scores, but I am confident with a good practice book, with lots of the harder questions, I can get an 800 by getting them all done in the alotted time. And if I feel that if I can get an 800, I should. I have absolutely no problem getting even the most difficult questions done correctly, it's just a timing issue. So, in summary, can anyone recommend a book full of the toughest GRE questions, with lots of practice exams? Thanks guys |

I took the Kaplan GRE course. It's fairly expensive, in the $1k range (it was part of a summer program). It had the advantage of having 6 online computer adaptive tests. This way you got the feel of what it was like to take a timed test and have it give you questions with increasing difficulty. I imagine either those tests were quite difficult or I just run good at real GRE b/c I never scored higher than 730 on a practice and got an 800 on the rela thing.

NOVA GRE Math Bible - this is the only book I have seen that actually has a lot of practice problems - it covers everything and got me completely ready to get an 800.
Also, this wouldn't require buying it, but I would take notes from the Kaplan book on their tricks as they have some good ones (such as divisibility and mixture problems) that help you solves problems quickly. |

I felt that the Barron's practice tests were harder than the actual GRE, except for not including many probability or counting questions (which showed up on the official ETS powerprep CD but not on my actual test). I also felt like there were plenty of problems to practice with...
