Do universities average two different GRE tests?

Hello there,

I am planning to retake my GRE test cause the quant part went badly (740) for my purpose. Since all the record are shown to the universities I was wondering if I take for example 800 in quantitative part the next try then how the universities deal with the double score?

do they take valid just the last one? or, do they average the two scores?

best guys

Some universities use the best score while others take the average. You should contact contact the schools which you are interested in for the exact criteria they use.

But, I heard people make claim on their highest GRE score.

If one gets 1340(1st) and 1270(2nd) in two go, he writes 1340 as hiss GRE score in his CV and writings to Professors.

Yet, things vary a lot. Do not fear getting the score lowered.
One of my friend scores 640 first in Quant, then he retook and scored 800. He got admission where the average of 720 could not take him. In short, eveyone makes claim on the best (if not latest) score. the things that happen in other part is obscure.

Thanks

Every university has its own policy. You have to call/email the admissions people and ask what their policy is. There is no single correct answer to this question. It simply depends on the university.

Hey as far as i know suppose u have a score of 1100( 1st) and 1300 (2nd) they consider the second score. What i mean the best of two will be taken into consideration...

Mostly, they take the best score only. The universities which take an average are only a miniscule minority. So don't worry.
