Need some help with the GRE!

Hi,

I took the GRE a few days ago and got Q780,V560 and I planning to give it another try (interested in finance phd admissions in Europe).
I basically hope to lift my quant section to 800 and need some advice on study material...

I spent around 2.5 months preparing using:
Books: Kaplan (no cd), barrons 800 words, official GRE book with 10 tests
Software: barrons cd, princeton cd, powerprep cd

So my questions are the following:
1. Which book/software/website to use for more difficult math questions?
2. Is there any point in using some GMAT material I have to focus on more tough questions?
3. In case I get a better overall score with the lower quant score, e.g. Q770,V600 which score are the adcoms going to consider?

Thanks guys!

Hi!

Question1.There's a lot of information on these forums for specific books and software recommendations to increase your quant score. So you may have to search around a bit from the little search I've done Barron 17th ed and above is recommended but search around a bit.

2. The GMAT test is different than the GRE although the problem solving might be of some use but I've found the GMAT to be a bit more intermediate than the GRE which in my opinion is very basic foundational level math. The GMAT is also but I think it goes a little deeper.

Question 3. I think the Adcom considers the score that you report to them or the one you want them to look at. A good idea would be to contact the schools in which you plan to apply to make sure they wont average to the scores.

Hi johnmasvou,

Try the BIG CD GRE Mock Tests software (look-a-like screens is an added advantage), the questions are tough.

All the Best!

A1. Check my sig and have all those materials for your GRE preparation. You will find easy to difficult level questions in math as well as in verbal.

A2. You can use GMAT material as far as it has same syllabus. Its good to prepare from different materials and practice.

A3. Depends on admission committees of your univ.. But generally they will consider average score of your total attempts.. But ask thy univ. adcoms for surety.
