NEED help-plz reply
Hi everybody on the forum.
Recently i have appeared for the GRE and honestly speaking i took casual approach towards the exam. In addition, on the exam day i got struck in QUANT section after the first one/two problems (which are supposed to be easy). I became listless and suddenly i realized the test is not gonna go well!! So, i ended up with a score no where near my approximation. I am completely unsatisfied with my score and thinking about taking the test again. Here is my present condition, 1. I have registered for TOEFL in the next 14th November and thinking about taking gre again in the mid december. 2. I completed Barron beforehand with a memorizing efficiency of 70%. I am working on it (again!) to take the memorizing efficiency to 95% at least (upto 14th November). As it is quite difficult to bifurcate my attention to GRE and TOEFL both, i am thinking about taking a 1 month preparation after 14 november. If anyone of you can suggest me a perfect study plan (judging my condition) to get to a good score, that will be so nice .Thanks |

Hey i would recommend you to pay your maximum concentration on GRE.You need not take more than six days(about four hours a day)of preparation for TOEFL.you might feel it damn easy if you have prior GRE experience and So you have time study for both simultaneously.Dont waste much time in effect to memorise vocabs.Better choose to improve your analytical skills which could be gained only by regular practise.Lack of practise was also one reason for my dull performance in my first GRE attempt last month in which i got 1120.I have just done with my TOEFL yesterday and expecting a fair score.For speaking part,videos of youtube will be sufficient to learn how to produce precise and perfect answers.That greatly helped me and in fact speaking section was the one i felt comfortable with.so what i try to say is keep GRE preparation as primary,eventhough your TOEFL exam is nearing.Then from my experience,developing your memorising efficiency will not help much.Do practise with mock GRE as much as you can and put equal effort in practising RCs.

Hi finix_regen,
Since you have already taken your GRE, TOEFL should not be a tough task. However, I feel that you should not take it too casually. Since only 10 days are left, I think you should concentrate on TOEFL till 14th and then give your complete attention to GRE. Anyways, while studying for TOEFL, you would have covered some part of GRE also. I agree with extrovert on 'developing memorizing efficiency will not help much'. Do not concentrate on Words alone. Practise analytical problems as well. Balance your studies. In the last 7 days, take Mock tests to know where you stand and where you need polishing. Refer TOEFL iBT BIG CD. They have good Mock tests. All the Best! mad_dy |

thnx guys for your replies. you are right, i have taken 1 mock test of TOEFL and it doesn't seem 2 difficult except it's a long test(4 hrs nearly). I have taken IELTS(7.5) few years back and that experience is also helping.
Specifically i was looking for suggestions for taking GRE prep in 1 month(as i have finished vocabulary before). I have read some posts in the forum which helped me a lot to prepare my study plan. If there is someone who can add a little bit more direction judging my condition-that will be nice. Please pray for me; i wanna overcome this poor score in GRE because i am feeling like being burnt constantly- inside and out!! |

What is the university deadline that you are racing against?
What is your required GRE score? If you need more than 1400, you have to re strategise yourself. One month will not be enough to get a good score like that. You should have given more emphasis to GRE. TOEFL is a cakewalk if you are good enough in your GRE preparation. What will you do if you get a really good score in TOEFL but a not so good one in GRE? |

@ramalakshmie
I am quite flexible in case of choosing universities. I have an Engineering background and not looking for Ivy league universities. Basically I am seeking a place in mid level universities(ranking wise after 50) with funding opportunities.so, i think a quant score of 790+ and overall score of 1350 will do just fine for me. CAN anyone give me an idea about funding priorities deadline (generally it's December 15 or January 15 for most universities)?? |

The problem is the more delay you make, the less universities will be there accepting applications.
Anyway, Ivy League closes early and you can try your mentioned range well after you take the GRE in your convenient time. Best of Luck and do pray for me ,also. Thanks ![]() |
