My GRE nightmare-I am so sad
I took GRE test for the first time last week (Thursday)and I bombed it
I'm in tears as I type this post ![]() ![]() This is the only thing that is holding my application for a Masters in Psychology. I have a very strong application (Excellent GPA, currently work full time on the field, and research publications) and I was hoping to get a good GRE score but the speed and test anxiety got in the way. In the math I was able to answer until Q20 when I looked time I only got one minute to guess the rest of the test. After I got my verbal and it was hard to concentrate plus I got a lot reading comprehension, which is not my forte (ESL). Anyways, I prepared for about 6 weeks did study a lot math, took some days off from work, I did study with diff prep books like barrons, princeton, kaplan. I did better is my power prep tests but again my speed is definetely my weakness. Now I have to re-take exam again. Anyone have any advice for me? Should I consider taking a Kaplan or Princeton Review GRE course? Do this help? I though i can take some rest during the holidays but I guess no. Sorry I needed to vent. |

So you canceled your score?
6 weeks is not sufficient time to have very good prep for GRE i think.. may be u completely ignored time constraint and practicing test keeping that in mind.. PM or email me if you are seeking advice.

Hi karito,
From what you have written, I think you did not give sufficient time for the preparation. Anyways, let bygones be bygones. Dont get demotivated; instead take learnings from what happened and start afresh. I personally feel that GRE is a self-prep exam. You just need to be focussed and dedicated. A very important part of the preparation is to know your weaknesses and work on them. You know two of your weaknesses - RCs and time management - work on them. For RCs, some wonderful posts are present on GRE Reading Comprehension section. In fact, you can also find a post by me there. Check them out and make sure you practice atleast 1 reading comprehension every day. Give yourself some time; you will gradually improve. For Time management - Time yourself whenever you are working on problems and try to solve similar kinds of problems in lesser time next time. Dont know when are you planning to reappear for your GRE but give atleast 2 hours a day to Quant practice. Take Mock tests - plenty of them. Refer GRE BIG CDs, Powerprep. Both are equally good. All the Best! mad_dy |
