Sticky: How to remember thousands of Words for GRE
The very mention that you have to remember 3-4 thousand words in order to prepare for competitive exams may well spell goose bumps in the entire body. It is no child’s play to remember these many words. But the sad part of the story is that exams like GRE, CAT, TOEFL require you to remember these many words. Though it is difficult to remember the meaning of so many words, it is no rocket science either. With strict diligence, you can achieve this feat.
Organizing your efforts is very important. Do not just randomly pick any word and mug it up. That will take you nowhere. Instead, target each alphabet and finish off all the words originating with that alphabet. Then target the next alphabet. Tools like Flash cards and Word Reader by THE BIG CD can prove to be very useful. They have organized all the words in alphabetical order. Do not just remember the words with the meaning. This will make it difficult for you to remember the words in the long run. Along with the meaning, also try and keep in mind the practical application of that word. Make use of The Flash Cards Workbook for this. It has numerous exercises on all the words in Flash Cards. Load the entire word list in your cell phones. This will help you to revise your words even when you are on the go. The Complete Mobile Wordlist (again by THE BIG CD) can be used here. Once you have learnt a few new words on a particular day, revise the same words the next day. Whenever you learn any new set of words, make it a point to revise the older ones. A strict plan and proper execution of the same can help you to remember even the most dreaded words. |
