As people rely more and more on technology to solve problems, the ability of humans to think for themselves will surely deteriorate
Nowadays people are debating the controversy that whether the increasingly technology would diminish the ability of humans to thinks for themselves.
A part of these people present their values that the phenomenon would surely deteriorate the ability of humans to humans to think for themselves. They believe the Artificial Intelligence (AI) is capable to act exactly the same as human beings. They can take dictations, draw pictures, make euphonious voices, interpret photographs, predict the weather, etc. But, AI programs are highly specialized for special tasks, and they cannot solve various ranges of problems like humans. For example, can supercomputer Deep Blue beat Garry Kasparov in cooking? Since it beat him in 1997 by chess. And there remains a question, if the ability to think for themselves is deteriorate, how could it be possible that technology will develop to satisfy humans?
On the contrary, American philosopher John Searle, representing the other side to this debate, expressed a different view. He admits that a program might produce replies identical to those of a person, but he argues that a program cannot understand anything it says. It is not saying or asserting anything at all, but merely outputting meaningless symbols that it has manipulated in accordance with purely formal rules. Searle asserts that human brains can ascribe meanings to symbols, thus deriving understanding, whereas metal and silicon cannot.
In my opinion, I have to acknowledge that with the development of technology, some people may perhaps decrease their ability of thinking for themselves because their internal personality. But, to humans, there is no doubt that the society would definitely benefit from the developing technology because of the enterprise and ambition of this race.
It is easily and safely to arrive at the conclusion that the ability of humans to think for themselves won’t deteriorate with the developing of technology.
I sincerely hope there is someone who can tell me whether the grammar is wrong, how to use a better expression, and how to prolong and strengthen the text since my mother-tongue is not English.
