Depends where you want to apply, what schools are you thinking of applying?

Dear friends,
I sat for GRE on Feb 1 2005 and score are: v410, Q770, AW 3.5 and I wish to study Master in IT. I am not satisfied with the score and want to try again. Would you please provide feedback on my score? I have no idea about the present trends of score and admission and scholarship but I have a hunch that 1300 ( V+Q) is a good score.
Looking forward to your feedback.
Regards
Krishna
No.
It is not a good score by any standard. Rather its a poor score. On the top you dream admission in IT, so its a very low score.
Sorry for the harsh reply. Its a bitter pill, just swollow it.
Consider re-taking the exam, you have ample time still.
You might look at some people's profile under the SUCCESS and Just Finished GRE sections. Look at where they got in and what their profile is. I don't know if the Verbal matters all that much if you are international. I think 770Q is on the low side for IT and international students since A LOT of international students get 800Q. Your AWA of 3.5 is a little low too, if you can improve to 4.5, that would be fine. I'm not saying you need to have 800Q but in order to qualify for scholarship/fellowship for a masters program (harder than for Ph.D), your profile needs to be pretty exceptional. My thoughts for now.
wait, you're from Nepal, that might work to your advantage during your application process since I think not many people from your country apply for grad school. If you are from India or China applying in IT with your score then your chances are bad, but you might qualify for some special scholarships or fellowships for minorities so look around. If you get an outside funding source then all you need is to secure admission somewhere and not have to worry about funding.

Hey coolpaggy, you might want to tone it down a bit! Krishnap's score is not all that bad. In fact, Krishnap, I suggest you have a look at this thread: http://www.urch.com/forums/showthrea...rbinger+purdue (I got admisison from Purdue Univ and Virginia Tech)
He had the following scores:
TOEFL:263, Essay:5
GRE: 1280 verbal 480, quant:800, essay:4.0
He got into Purdue and Virginia. So not all is lost yet. If you think you do have a serious chance of improving your scores, then do re-take the exam by all means. However, you may also want to strengthen all the other aspects of your application: SOP, LORS, research etc.
Good Luck!
