    GRE Review Books

    Hello,

I have a terrible time with these standardized tests. I took a review class for the SAT's in high school and met with a tutor and still couldn't break 1200. My dreams were shattered for going to a lot of the colleges I wanted to attend.

Now I am studying for the GRE and I just need to break 600 on the math section (that's what the people at the grad school program I am applying to told me. It's just a terminal MA degree). I took some practice tests in the old GRE ETS 10th edition book and just broke 600 but now I hear that the tests are outdated and from the 1980's. I hear now that Barron's is the best book. The problem with that is is that BARRON's MATH PROBLEMS KILL ME!!!! I literally can't do them. This is an important question....are Barron's math problems like the math problems on the real test????????? Or are they harder???? If I just want to get a 600 on the math section, is there a different book I should use? I get the feeling all the math problem in Barron's are 800 level questions? If true, that would make me feel a lot better.

What is this GRE big book? Is it sold in stores?

    Thanks,
    DAve

okay, first you should try reading some of the other messages in this forum as some of your questions have already been asked and answered by many other people.

second, my understanding is barron's is the best overall study book (it has a large vocab bank, has a good refresher course in math, has numerous practice exams, comes with a CAT cd, etc.). that being said i have heard from different sources that the barrons math problems tend to be easier (?) than the real GRE. if you are really worried you should just download the math study guide from www.gre.org and read it and do the practice problems.

third, i believe the big book is out of print, but you might be able to get it on ebay.

    good luck

    Thumbs up Hi

    Hi,
Haste makes waste and hurry makes worry. There is no point in fuming even before you've even tried. First give up your 'decision' that you can't get the magic score, okay. I was in the exactly same position a few months back. But thanks to members like attraxion, ivo and many other , I am very confident before the exam. So you too plough through these threads, plan your strategy and execute it neatly. Before that, visit the www.gre.org, or atleast read the first few pages of Barron's to know the basics of this test.
You'll do fine. All the best.
