My Opinions on PRACTICE and the REAL GRE and their true difficulty ratings...

1-10 10 being the highest or hardest. ALL OF THESE TESTS ARE CAT tests, not book tests.

BIG GRE CBT CD From Edusoftech

Difficulty of Quant tests: 9.5
Cruelty of Scoring: 9

Difficulty of Verbal: 8
Cruelty of Scoring: 9

BIG GRE CD From Edusoftech (Note, has some computer bugs)

Difficulty of Quant tests: 9
Cruelty of Scoring: 9

Difficulty of Verbal: 8 (in all the wrong ways)
Cruelty of Scoring: 9

CATPREP.COM (Verbal tests were easy for me)

Difficulty of Quant test 1: 8
Cruelty of Scoring: 9

Difficulty of Quant test 2: 8
Cruelty of Scoring: 9

Difficulty of Quant test 3: 9
Cruelty of Scoring: 9

Difficulty of Verbal test 1: 5
Crruelty of Scoring: 5

Difficulty of Verbal test 2: 5
Cruelty of Scoring: 5

Did not take the third verbal test...

800score.com

(Note: Tests are very time consuming in weird ways. Does not test logic as much as the real GRE. Lots of calculations.)

Difficulty of Quant tests: 8
Cruelty of Scoring: 7.5

Difficulty of Verbal: 8
Cruelty of Scoring: 7

Barron's

Difficulty of Quant tests: 6
Cruelty of Scoring: 7

Difficulty of Verbal tests: 4.5
Cruelty of Scoring: 5

Arco

Difficulty of Quant tests: 7
Cruelty of Scoring: 6.5

Difficulty of Verbal tests: 8
Cruelty of Scoring: 7

Kaplan's

Difficulty of Quant tests: 6
Cruelty of Scoring: 6

Difficulty of Verbal tests: 8
Cruelty of Scoring: 7

Princeton Review 2004 Version and free online practice test

(The newer versions may be different, but I found the current free online test easy too.)

Difficulty of Quant tests: 5
Cruelty of Scoring: 5

Difficulty of Verbal tests: 5
Cruelty of Scoring: 5

MyGRETutor.com (Has many many errors in tests)

Difficulty of Quant tests: 5.5
Cruelty of Scoring: 4

Difficulty of Verbal tests: 5.5
Cruelty of Scoring: 4

REA (CD has a great verbal builder, but the tests stink)

Difficulty of Quant tests: 3
Cruelty of Scoring: 7

Did not try the Verbal as I found the tests not reflective of the real GRE at all. Some of the words they use for analogies are really silly.

GRE Bible-- Has tons of errors.

Difficulty of Quant tests: 5
Cruelty of Scoring: Inconsistent

Difficulty of Verbal tests: 5
Cruelty of Scoring: 4

Cambridge Review -- Very similar to the real GRE!!

Difficulty of Quant tests: 5
Cruelty of Scoring: 5

Difficulty of Verbal tests: 5
Cruelty of Scoring: 5

POWERPREP!

Difficulty of Quant tests: 5
Cruelty of Scoring: 5

Difficulty of Verbal tests: 5
Cruelty of Scoring: 5

REAL GRE TEST THAT I TOOK

Difficulty of Quant test: 5
Cruelty of Scoring: 5

Difficulty of Verbal test: 5
Cruelty of Scoring: 5

What do you think your score would have been before all your prep?

Hi, just got back from the pool hall with a friend.

Yes, that would have to be the one, Pupil.

Hi Serenity. With absolutely no study or knowledge of the test design what would my score have been? That's a tough question. I probably would have scored very low because I'm more of a creative, lateral and reflective thinker than I am a fast naturally good TIMED test taker. As a result, I need to adapt my personality and thinking style from divergent (wandering day dreamer) to systematic, convergent and organized. If I don't do this then I won't finish half the test because I wouldn't be able to pay attention and work fast. I would have too many ADD problems. LOL

I wouldn't be surprised if I scored VERY LOW. How low? I will avoid answering that because I'm afraid how low I will have to go.

I hadn't heard of CATPrep.com...cool. Thanks for taking the time to do that post...awesome!

I have the 2007 version of PR's book and it's definitely gotten harder (my library had an older one, either 2004 or 2005). If you're not done studying I would pick up that one. I've really gotten a lot out of it so far.

oh my goodness I have just bought the edusoftech ones...

I tried a quant session just to see if they were so diffucult.

In all the tests I had ever tried I had never gotten less than 650, here I got 560... it's amazingly hard, especially the graph interpretation.

Fortunately 40 days to go before my second real GRE (2 years ago I received 780)

Princeton Free Online Test got tougher ?

Hi

Have any of you guys noticed if Princeton Free Online Test has got tougher ? esp the quant section

I just took it today and my scores were Q650 V610. My quant scores have never been below 700 even on 800score tests. The probs were very lengthy.

Incisive: Some people seem to have experienced some inconsistency in the difficulty of the Princeton tests. They don't seem to be very consistent. The ones I took were easy, but others have had experiences with both very easy and very difficult Princeton tests. I'm not sure what is going on with that. The 2004 CAT tests are ridiculously easy.

Even the online test seems a bit inconsistent. Sometimes it is harder than other times, apparently. For me I have never taken a Princeton quant test that I found challenging in the least.

I thought the 800score tests were much harder.
