Need help with TIMING, all suggestions welcome!

I'm helping my wife get through her Kaplan GRE review course (580Q, 410V). She's from Argentina, bright, but not strong in math or vocab.

Her biggest problem is TIMING. She gets easily caught up on problems that take her too long to solve, then feels rushed and flustered. (She gets especially frustrated when she sees that given more time, she can find the correct answer.) Currently she's saving about 5 minutes for the final 8-10 questions or so in each section.

From what I understand about CAT tests, she should take more time on the earlier questions, yes? Right now, our plan on Quant is to take 28 minutes for the first 15 questions, and 17 minutes for the final 13. On Verbal, 20 minutes for the half of the exam that includes the Reading Comp, and 10 minutes for the other half.

I'd love to hear any other plans of attack to cut losses and save points. Some food for thought (good or bad ideas?):

- Other pacing schedules?

- Plan on guessing the final 5-7 questions of each section, saving time for earlier questions?

- Giving yourself a set number of PASSES each section, so as to encourage skipping the harder questions?

Thanks for any advice!

The thing about the GRE is that all the questions are standardized. All questions belong to a particular type. Your wife must do barrons or some basic quant material and get used to solving quickly.

I think 28 minutes for 15 questions is slow. But, that depends on the score your aiming for. If its a 700, then it's not fast enough. Try finishing the first 10 questions in about 16-17 minutes and then speed up

You can also try tests from 800score.com. They have a built in pacing system which shows you which question your supposed to be in. You can adjust the speed depending on the percentile your aiming for.
