Importance of GRE verbal?
Can anyone tell me the important of GRE verbal in admission of a non-native, for PhD in engineering?
My friend said that in the field of engineering ( or some field not linguistic, literature ...) a non-native just need high score in Quant, and Verbal 300-400 is enough , the Admission Committee don't care about Verbal? Further more, can anyone tell me why American (that are pragmatic) require the GRE ( study the words list and a high school math?? ) |

A verbal score in the 300s will not only hurt your chances for admission, it will make it extremely hard to get a visa to study in the U.S. Work hard to get your verbal score up. Get an English tutor if needed, or take a GRE prep class like Princeton Review.

Verbal is important. If also you are engineering student, verbal plays a vital role in university selection process as in Quant to get 750+ score is not tough and I hear from many who has got 800 in Quants. But they lack verbal score and hence dont get into university they expect. I will recommend every GRE student to get good score in all sections (also AWA) and emphasize more in each sections.
