Hi NadiaS,
I agree with Jalapeno. My TOEFL was 230/4. I took TSE three times..whether I practiced or not , I just got 40. Then I took IELTS..I've got speaking band 7/overall 6.5.. good enough to get my Visascreen! Good Luck! |

Hi everyone,
You are so nice ,all of you to share your feelings about the TSE/Ielts.I have just received a bad news about my 4th attempt for TSE,I got 45 again. So I definitely decided to give up and focus on Ielts.Your feedback encourage me a lot and help me to persevere.I try to plan the IELTS for the end of August. What do you think? What kind of materials should I use to be competent and pass the exam the first time? Thanks a lot! ![]() |

Hi Goldpetals & Sabfra,
My only advice is to do as many practice tests as you can, especially Cambridge IELTS 3 & IELTS Specimen Materials 2003 (or the latest one). If you're not getting good scores (at least 34 in every module, I think), study Insights to IELTS. I worked on 6 IELTS review materials, but found these to be really helpful. Be confident when you're doing the tests, especially when you do the speaking test. To tell you the truth, I really didn't practice much on speaking. On the day on the speaking test, I practiced a lot at home beforehand. Like if I was given such topic, I would speak about it with zest. And I think that's one of the reasons why I got an 8 on it - I spoke enthusiastically, smiling and making the conversation interesting. The examiner was really helpful too. She was really nice. With reading - if they're asking for apples, give them apples. Know what I mean? If you're not sure with the answer, find the most obvious one (the same word/context within the text) on the choices of answers. With writing, I just got lucky that during our test, we got to interpret a table and it was much, much easier than having to do bar graphs or pie charts. But I think Insights to Ielts has good writing section. You should read up on that.Hope this helps! |
