A useful site to practise IELTS speaking part 3
Here's a useful site I found for this (also this week's recommended website on the Active IELTS site):
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/religion/moralmaze.shtml You can hear experts discussing issues based on news topics - useful for speaking part 3 and writing Task 2. Hope it helps someone out there! Paul E |

It will probably help somebody, but not for IELTS speaking section. And this is why I said that: Everyone has own vocabulary using for speech. To train oneself to say something above the level he/she on is stresfull. My suggestion for speech: Go SIMPLE! No rocket science although you get the topic about technologies, global warming or whatever. The simplier your sentences the better chance to not make a mistake. |

OK, enough
Dear Rim
Can you please stop criticising my suggestions? Like all free advice, you can take it or leave it, and this kind of content will be useful for someone somewhere. I'm not selling anything, just trying to help. Thanks |

Paul, have you ever taken some language test of other language than the one that is your native?
If yes, then you know that what I am suggesting......the simpler- the better. If you haven't, so then where is the critique. I know what I am talking about. The heavy books and professional discussions are not for learning English. Foreign language goes step by step. But you should know it as an IELTS teacher. The last point. .....I have the right to criticize, even though it is not my goal, because I am in the shoes of the people trying to achieve IELTS and am experiencing the same difficulties. I do not criticize you , but try to find easier and suitable solution how to study. BTW. I did not "criticize" to listen to that radio for listening section of IELTS, just for speaking, because on test nobody is going to use that language, it would be disaster (of course not for very advanced students, but you are always talking about beginners, so it was my suggestion for them). |

Haud,
I think the topics like global warming, technologies, leadership, waste disposal issues, ......... you have to know what to say......otherwise you can not expect good score in any part of IELTS because these themes occur always on the test. And if you do not know anything then study first.... there is a Google where you can put the the word technologies, global warming etc.... If you mean that some topic may be not your favourite, then stay calm and find some associations to it...example: technologies may bring you to: computers, robots, machines, cars, vacuum cleaners.... and then make an introducing sentence and go on.........amazing sentence is: ....something.......... have several advantages and disadvantages, for example:..........and then you talk what is known to you or what you have in your vocabulary IELTS is not just about English, it is about your intelligence, abilities, creativity and speed. AND THE STUDY![/quote] |

Ideas for part 3 speaking
Haud
You can try http://www.idebate.org/debatabase/topic_index.php for ideas on issues for part 3. It's easy to use and will get you thinking. If you really dry up then try explaining to the examiner that you have no clear ideas on a question. If you do this clearly, then the examiner will accept it and move on to another question. Remember their job is to helpp you do your best. As an examiner myself, I prefer people to say when they have no ideas than to produce a poor answer. Hope this helps |
