Society is defined as a large social gathering that shares the same geographical or virtual territory.Based on this definition, one assumes that the major characteristics of a society are quite uniform spread across a country which is quite untrue.

The characteristic locus that a city has although may intersect at some points with the rest of the geographical territory, has a large gap compared to the same. A city region is a hetero-compound of number of elements with some elements belonging to the past. These native elements do maintain the traits that are observed in the rest of the geographical vicinity. Language, food culture, dress culture, accent are those few traits which can be mostly be accounted for. These traits are more or less the same in large parts of non city region, but when it comes to a city, this region already has many other elements influencing those basic traits. The result is a blend of fruits from different cultures. This fusion fits with the city society so well that there exists a balance between and in all elements. Even the foreign elements adopt to these new trends so well, that part of their culture is lost where they come from. Thus one cannot totally rely on cities to study the major characteristics of a society.

However there is a contradictory argument to the above reasoning. These days even country side areas which are less affected by revolution, still do get influenced by some of the city traits like the clothes they wear, the vehicles they drive etc. These traits suppress the age long tradition of hose traits. For example people in Indian villages do not continue wearing dhoti and lungi. They tend to like having noodles as their snacks rather than something like a wada or litti. Yet these places which are less affected by revolution can be used as a base to understand most characteristics of a society
