Hi ya'll!
Hi Erin and students!
I'm Gaby and I live in Mexico. I'm thinking about taking the TOEFL on february 7. I have no time to study in a whole sense but I really need to take the test since the deadline for the scholarship I want to get is due on 18th march and they demand at least 213 in the CBT. Im self-studying with this Longman complete course for both CBT and PBT. Is that a good source to study? Well, I just wanted to introduce myself and also to thank Erin for this useful site So, I gotta go back to my books! If I can help in any way, let me know guys! Enjoying a nice 70 F- weather, Gaby |

Allo Gabriel n welcome to TM Forums ...
Don't worry about TOEFL ... its only englais . With your English, I don't think you even need to study for it.Cheers Bigduke (a.k.a. Harshit) ![]()

Hi duke!
Thanks for your nice comments but I really think that 2 weeks aren't enough to get 213 in the CBT. I know it's just English, but since I want to attend to University, they requiere more than a "fair level". Do you know how many questions is each section about? I'd really appreciate some "light" from you guys, in case you've taken the TOEFL.Gaby |

Re: Hi ya'll!
Hi duke,
It sounds very conforting that explantion "w/o studying". But Im so nervous that Im almost giving up now! After all, the deadline for the scholarship is due on 6 weeks and Im supposed to take the test in 2 more weeks, which gives me... exactly 4 weeks to get the results. Anyway, thanks for your support! gaby |

Re: Hi ya'll!
Hola Gabriela!
I took the TOEFL in December, after a month of preparation. However, as I work full time, I ended with more or less 50 hours of preparation. I had a 270. Longman is an excellent book to study, but I have warn you: listening exercises from the CD are not hard enough. Pronunciation is very clear. My plan was to study each part of the exam reading tips (skills) from the book: 1) listening; after the tips, I made all the exercises in the CD 2) structure; the same 3) reading; the same After that, I took the full tests from the CD And at last, the powerprep tests. These are very similar to real ones, and you will see the difference with Longman's pronunciation. I also made some mini tests I found in a thread here: http://www.urch.com/forums/attachmen...ttachmentid=84 For the essays, I practice some of the possible topics, but read all of them, in order to make sure that there were no unknown vocabulary for me, and to think something about the topic. These tips can also be useful: http://www.urch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12765 (TOEFL Essay Writing Tips) Also, I used this forum very frequently. I had not participated so much with Toefl, only read, but now, I am preparing the GMAT and I can tell you that participating and reading other's postings are very useful. Experiences from other are invaluables. Check this thread up: http://www.urch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14057 (240-293 Oct-13 2004) Well, hope this helps. I think it is not so difficult as it seems to. Don't worry. Just take all the time you can in these 2 weeks and practice. Saludos y suerte, Mercedes. |

Re: Hi ya'll!
Hola Mercedes!
Thank you for your kind advices. I know Longman makes it pretty easy for test takers and that's why Im listening to all english-speaking resources to get a daily-life pronunciation. I have checked all the possible things here. This site is very helpful, without hesitation. I coudnt find any powerprep test to buy here in my city, so that's why I had to buy the Longman kit. Still it offers some help,más vale algo que nada. Im planning to write 5 essays per day, so at the end of 2 weeks, Ill have at least 70 essays, with all the vocabulary, or part of it, covered. Your suggestions are very appreciated here, Gracias! I will let you guys know how I did. Thanks for your support! gaby |
