Urgent - PLs help Compltly NEW

Hi
Erin

I went through the Testmagic Fourm queries, and I think that I can find the answers to my queries here. And I must say that you guys are doing a great job here.....

Ok...A lil about myself ( I Know it is not really required...but just to give a clear picture)

My fiance lives in the USA (Chicago),and since I will be getting married, I intend to pursue my further studies when I come to US. Regarding my academic background, I have completed my graduation in Commerce (B.Com) i.e 10 + 2 + 3, and will be appearing for my M.Com (Part 1) very soon, so once I complete my M.Com, I become eligible for a Graduate program in US, i.e I will have 16 Yrs of education.

Now this is the tough part....I am not sure as to what career to pursue when I come there ( coz I don't know what all options I have) the only things that I have heard from my friends who have gone to US is...you can do an MBA, MS-IT...or some Computer related course.

I enquired here with classes that give coaching for GMAT,GRE etc....and all I came to know from all this is that, if I need to do anything in Business Management (MBA) I will need to give GMAT.

BUt my query is that what does one need to give GRE for( I just know that if you want to do your Masters you need to give GRE), I mean which courses can you take after giving GRE or GRE is required for which all courses ?

The lady that I went to enquire today at INDO-AMERICAN SOCIETY gave me an example - that if I want to do my Masters in Finance I need to give GRE, but if I want to do an MBA in Finance, I need to take GMAT ? What is the difference between the 2 courses then ? I dont want to keep my choice limited to just doing an MBA. I want to know as to what course are there to study (coz in India you have a very limited choices) in the USA and then accordingly I can decide if I need to take GMAT or GRE.

This is really confusing and I am completely new to all this. Can't even make up my mind if I need to do GMAT or GRE. Don't want to regret if do not make the right decision. Or my second option is to take both GRE and GMAT, but want to avoid doing so. Initailly my interest was in Physcology(but i guess u need to have science background) and Law (dnt want to confuse myself with LSAT, hence dropped the Law option), and I am still open to them if I have the eligibility, also I like counselling, . What all options are availabe for a person with my kinda background ?

Could you suggest me some website where I can check as to what I can study, in the first place. Otherwise my only option left will be an MBA !
Dont knw if I made sense at all here. But this is what i had to ask in the first place. Hope I get some help to make up my mind, Once this is sorted out, I will be on track ! Hope I dint confuse u ...I am so confused myself !!!

PS: I am checking these websites for career options

Re: Urgent - PLs help Compltly NEW

GRE is generally for Engineering,Pure Sciences(Maths,Bio etc.) and Humanities.
GMAT is for MBA and business related.

For Masters in Finance., I suppose it is related to commerce side and under pure sciences. MBA covers finance along with administration.Whereas Finance contain technical subjects of CA etc.

I have heard that those who want ot pursue their CA / CS practices, they have to clear CEPA exam.

For clearing confusions, first decide what you want to do.US education system is very flexible and multiferrous in nature.

For example Computer Science and Comp Science & Engg. appear same, but actually are different courses. Difference is that latter involves high degree of practical knowledgel.

Similarly, Doctors or Medical Prof. give GRE for Bioinformatics , Biotech etc. or even Phrma courses, whereas for MD course or Dental ,( BDS) you have to clear USMLE.

Thus you can see, medical prof can give GRE and USMLE.

Similarly, MS-IT and Masters in Finance , GRE is required. For MBA, GMAT is required.

Hope this helps you understand.
