Hi All,

Male,33 ,married with an adorable 8 month old...and still looking ..........

.......for that eluding magic GMAT score.

Took it in Jan and came back with a 570.I can't say I prepared that well.
ursula ...great job on the 760 !! and thanks for all the tips.

I plan on taking the GMAT again in the next few months.I did not know about the Official Guide the first time aroung.I definitely plan on using it.I used the PowerPrep and some Kaplan material(higher score CD and the books).Anything else I should be doing ? any tips are appreciated.

Cheers

V_Chuk

Yeah, I got the same score the first time. I only prepped for three weeks, while watching TV, and only took 2 or 3 tests!! Not my best effort!

The Official Guide is definitely a must. Do every practice question if you can stomach it. I'd also get Cracking the GMAT - I found the strategies to be really helpful. Be sure to get the one that comes with the CD because it has 5 tests on it.

If you practice well you should be able to raise the score significantly.

ursula is almost a TestMagic guru.
Hi V_Chuk,
What was your quant/verbal breakdown on your first attempt? That should help you identify where to focus your energy.

Also, what were your PowerPrep scores when you were preparing? If they were significantly higher than 570, then it's not so much a lack of preparation for the content, but more the mental side of the test that was your weakness. Taking the test a second time should help at least to some extent, because the test environment and mechanics will be familiar.

I imagine that an adorable 8-months old [heartbeat] would make studying more difficult, but I really think Official Guide is a must. In your weak areas, you should aim to go through every single problem at least once (and I mean actually solve it, not just read the solution).

Good luck!

You just have to keep practicing and don't stop. Get all the prep material you can go over solutions etc.. plenty of times and focus in even more on your weaker areas and keep positive.

Best Wishes & Regards....
