Dear All,

I took the GMAT for the first time last friday and scored 530.
I am very disappointed by the Verbal Section because I had 30 on evaluation tests and stayed one year in English speaking countries.
I also took the TOEFL and succeeded in this section. (243/300)

So what do you advice me to do?
Retake this exam?
Do I have any chance to attempt a school with 530 on GMAT?

Thanks million,
Sandy

sandy77,

Generally, people choose several B-schools which they want to study first since each school has different characteristics.
Then, brush up GMAT score to be sufficient to get in there by looking at average score or GMAT range. Typically, B-school's web page indicates those for applicants.

However, are you looking for the school which you can join with current GMAT score? If it's your choice, that's fine and there are schools you can get in. Some B-schools don't even require you to take GMAT.

Use the below web site for your reference....
You may be able to find B-school which you can apply.

Thanks,
Tmp

Hi sandy77

It seems that we have a common problem, " the weak verbal performance".
I took the GMAT 6 days ago and scored a 600 " Q47, V27 "

Business schools of middle class don't require a high GMAT score, so you still have a chance of an admission.

Personally, I'll retake after the MSc degree.

Good luck on your apps.

Hi Tam and Tmp,

Thank you for your advices.

I decided to retake the GMAT at the end of May.
I really want to have a better score and I know I can.

I read Kaplan and Barron's books for the 1rst GMAT.
For the second one, I have just bought "Cracking the Gmat", The economist and science magazines but I cannot find "The OG".

Do you know other books for improving the Verbal section especially the Critical Reasoning section [bomb]?

Thanksss
Sandy
Plan to take vacations in Malta :o

hey sandy
OG is hard to find I tried couple of stores incuding BN and borders.... however they do not have Official Guide.
Best is to look for online places other then amazon or mba.com which sell for 35+SH
I got the book second hand but in real good condition from www.powell.com or powells.com for 10 bucks....
and yes Official Guide is the BIBLE for GMAT.

You should be able to order the Official Guide from mba.com if you can't find a good copy on EBay...

Hi,

In my experience, the best advice for critical reasoning is: always read the last sentence of the question first (the bit that tells you what they are looking for) and read the passage with that in mind, and with the relevent position in your head.

For example, if asked what best supports an argument I always assume in my head (maybe this is wierd) that I am supporting somebody in a meeting, read through the passage, and then I find that the correct answer is always much more obvious to be.

Maybe that helps, maybe not..
