Took this exam yesterday.Prepared 6-7 weeks for this exam. Took the practice tests of kaplan,Princeton Review and PP.
Kaplan 630,640,650,600 PR-700-710,710,730 PP-770,750 I got stuck with the first few questions of the verbal section of GMAT-to make sure that the first 15 questions are all correct. I forgot the golden rule of guess and move forward if u are not sure. Anways, want to know if it makes sense for me to try the exam again. Is 710 good enough for the better colleges. I am talking top 10. If I try again will the scores be averaged out or will the latest score be taken. If I decide to take the test again-what should I do to make sure that this does not happen again. Looking at guidance from Erin on this one. Another dilemma is how do I get hold of fresh practice material for the test preparation. For those of you who want to know how the test was- Quant was interesting. I took my time reading the questions well and most of the questions had small tricks that were waiting to be discovered.I think there were 4 or 5 questions from stats. Not tough but interesting with tricks- only thing that can help in such problems :basics. Verbal was I guess a little bit tougher than PP but then I think I was severly hit because I got caught up with questions. There were 2 bold face questions. never had enough time to pay too much attention. There were 4 RCs and the critical reasoning had answers where I was always left with 2 and had to force myself to guess. People with good knowledge of how the system works for admissons, please let me know what you think. |

Congratulations and welcome to the 700 club!
![]() Man, that's one awesome quant score ![]() Sorry, I can't tell you anything about admissions chances - you may want to post in the MBA admissions forum. Make sure to include your background - e.g. GPA, work experience etc. The GMAT is only part of the puzzle. Lots of people would never consider rewriting with a score of 710, but given your PowerPrep scores, you could go higher. From what I've read, some schools use only your highest score, others average the scores if you took the GMAT more than once. The specific schools you're interested in should tell you their policy if you email them. |

Glad to be in the same club. I know 710 is a good score but you( assuming most people do
) know how it feels to perform below expectations specially your own. Whether to go for another try or not will be decided by guidane from experienced people- !!! Will the 77% in Verbal harm my prospects!!! Scores from PP can be a bit skewed because questions in it are from the Official Guide pool and I will consider that second hand testing. I am sure I missed out because of the SC problems. I got confused with the first one and took around 6 minutes on the first 2 questions, thereafter suffered the domino effect. Erin, bandhoo, some fundas needed from you too. How do I improve the performance on the Verbal section? I want the surest method not the shortest Have no signature line so I will quote one of the greatest contemporary cricket commentators- Navjot Singh Sidhu - 'If my aunt had been a man she would have been my uncle' - ![]() |

First of all panther, you know that your scores are excellent. If you retake, you run the risk of getting a lower score or appearing obsessive about your GMAT scores.
However, if I recall correctly, hellogmat was in a similar situation and decided to take the test again. Her/his score went up and then plateaued. The posts are a good read, you should check them out: GMAT 760 and GMAT 650 -> 760 I wish I could tell you that there were some shortcuts for GMAT verbal, but there aren't--you need to study, to concentrate, and to understand the concepts. Going through the posts here helps a lot of people, and you'll probably improve if you participate actively. A great attitude always helps, too. But again, you should really think carefully about retaking the test. ![]() |
