Do you think I'm prepared for attemp number 5?
Hi, since my last attempt (number 4), I didn't give up and I've been working to try to reach a minimum score of 650, which I need.
On my last to real test I got: August 2008: 600 (q44, v29) March 2009: 590 (q46, v25) What I did this time is working on new material, and use Gmatprep more often. I bought manhatan tests, and complete the kaplan GMAT 800 book and the critical reasoning Bible. I haven't used those materials in my previuos preparations. Resuming, my preparation tests (incluiding mistakes details) so far are: 5/5/2009 Gmatprep 1 q47 v36 680 Q: 11 mistakes 2,4,5,10,13,17,19,29,31,36,37 V: 13 mistakes, 5 SC, 5 critical reasoning, 3RC, 5,6,14,18,27,29,30,31,33,35,38,40,41 7/5/2009 Manhattan Test 1 q43 v34 640 Q: 18 mistakes 1,3,6,7,9,14,17,19,24,25,26,27,30,31,32,34,35,37 V: 17 mistakes, 4SC, 7CR, 6RC, 2,3,6,9,10,13,14,18,20,21,25,26,28,29,32,39,41 12/5/2009 Manhattan Test 2 q42 v27 570 Q: 20 mistakes 2,5,9,10,11,15,17,18,19,20,22,23,25,28,30,31,32,34 ,35,37 V: 24 mistakes, 7SC, 8CR, 9RC, 2,3,6,8,9,14,16,17,19,21,23,24,26,27,28,29,32,34,3 5,36,37,38,39,41 19/5/2009 Manhattan Test 3 q42 v37 650 Q: 18 mistakes 2,5,6,7,9,11,12,13,19,20,22,25,29,31,33,35,36,37 V: 16 mistakes, 7SC, 5CR, 4RC, 3,4,7,8,14,18,19,20,21,26,28,31,35,37,39,40,41 26/5/2009 Manhattan Test 4 q42 v35 640 Q: 17 mistakes 4,5,6,7,11,12,13,17,18,22,25,29,33,34,35,36,37 V: 17 mistakes, 3SC, 7CR, 7RC, 2,4,8,9,11,13,15,19,20,21,22,25,26,28,31,32,34 29/5/2009 Gmatprep 2 q44 v25 570 Q: 12 mistakes 5,11,15,20,22,24,26,27,29,33,36,37 V: 19 mistakes, 8SC, 6CR, 5RC, 4,5,8,9,10,11,15,20,22,23,26,27,28,30,32,35,38,40, 41 1/6/2009 Manhattan Test 5 q43 v33 630 Q: 19 mistakes 2,4,6,10,11,12,14,17,19,21,23,25,28,30,32,34,35,36 ,37 V: 19 mistakes, 5SC, 6CR, 8RC, 2,4,5,7,8,9,16,20,22,23,25,27,29,33,34,35,39,40,41 3/6/2009 Manhattan Test 6 q46 v33 650 Q: 14 mistakes 4,5,6,11,13,14,16,17,19,20,21,23,28,31,33 V: 19 mistakes, 8SC, 6CR, 5RC, 3,5,8,9,10,12,16,17,19,20,22,23,24,30,31,36,39,40, 41 4/6/2009 Gmatprep 2 q49 v29 650 (few repetitions) Q: 10 mistakes 5,7,9,14,25,27,28,29,31,33 V: 17 mistakes, 4SC, 4CR, 9RC, 8,9,11,14,15,16,23,25,26,27,29,33,34,35,39,40,41 5/6/2009 Gmatprep 1 q48 v38 700 (few repetitions) Q: 14 mistakes 3,7,8,18,19,22,23,24,26,27,28,30,31,33 V: 11 mistakes, 3SC, 4CR, 4RC, 3,6,13,14,23,25,26,30,38,40,41 I found manhatan tests more difficult than gmapprep and I had to guess a couple of questions on these tests. The quant part is really demanding. Waht I noticed about my preparation is that I'm very irregular in verbal but my average math is 44, so what I will need to achieve a 650 will be an average of 35. I would like to know, according to your experience, if you consider that I'm now prepared to achieve a minimum of 650 on Real Gmat. Again, it will be my attemp number 5 so, I want to be sure to get such score. I'm planning to take the test next week... so any advise will be very valuable for me. Thanks in advance. I think that you need to improve your verbal a bit more before taking the test, you can see that your GMAT prep Verbal score(without repeats tests) have not been above 35, try to improve your verbal score, in repeat GMAT prep tests you should get 40+ in verbal , PS: This is only a suggestion.... GMATRoad2 all the best in you future endeavors

I agree with you finsisher.
Please do not take test in this scenario. I have given GMAT 4 times until now and everytime I got humiliating score in verbal. Now I even see low verbal score in my bad dream (I am not kidding; this is true). I did not post my last(fourth) test experience which I took on may 27, 2009. Everytime I got high score in Manhattan GMAT. My last scores were 670, 680 and 710 in Manhattan GMAT and 740, 730 and 720 in GMATPrep. Believe me, Verbal is tougher now and whoever (I and my friends) took their tests recently have seen deterioration of 2 points in verbal score from the previous raw scores. I am not demoralising you and nor even scaring you. I've seen that your reading comprehension mistakes are more and, as you told, verbal score is irregular. hence, it is better that you make yourself strong before taking the test. Already I 've taken GMAT four times and I can understand how it is excruciating to stick with the exam. |

Thanks for your responses. From my previous experiences, I also found real Gmat more difficult than gmatprep but I don't know whether is only my perception. Many people here have achieved similar scores both in gmatprep and real gmat. Last attempt, I was thinking that I was doing pretty well in verbal but finally the score gave me a shot.
Anyway, the coin has been thrown... Check this, this is an expected score considereing your practice scores: GMAT Score Estimator (Beta) Last edited by gmatroad2 : 2009 June 8th at 03:25 PM. |

@gmatroad,
You are getting almost half of the questions wrong in the first 10 questions....that is the main reason for your low scores....try get the first 10-12 questions correct or atleast most 9/10 of them correct...and your score will improve... |

Yes, KSSR you are right about that, I have to concentrate on that part. Anyway, if you see my last two gmatprep scores, you will see that a made 2 mistakes on the first 10 but the final scores are totally different: 29 and 38, so I don't know what happened with the gmat algorithm.

Hi gmatroad2 !
my 2 cents, 1. ANALYZE - the tests properly. Wrong as well as Correct answers. 2. MAKE NOTES - of topics, tricks, grammar rules ... 3. CONCENTRATE - give 100 % to each and every question. 4. MAINTAIN YOUR COOL - don't be nervous. OK. try not to be nervous and take it easy on the exam day.5. STUDY SMARTLY - improve weaker sections. SC - POE, critical reasoning - critically read the stimulus, analyze each option. reading comprehension - get involved while you read...i.e. comprehend. PRACTICE. PS/DS - Kaplan and PR methods such as back tracking etc. Aviod silly mistakes, GmatClub's Math challengers. PRACTICE. HTH ![]() |

I've tried that trick also. I was totally determined last time that I would not make any nonsense within first 15 but everything effaced out. After all, it counts how many scored questions you do correctly and thus you've to be thorough on all the questions.
