1st attempt: 640 M 47 V 31 :((
I'm quite devastated by my results today. All my results for GMAT prep were above 690. Usually my quant was around 47-49 but Verbal was always over 40! I don't understand why my verbal turned out to be so low. I was always more comfortable with Verbal and dreaded quant as I'm from art background and hadn't done any math for a very long time. It took me a lot of practise to get my quant upto par... but it's just ironic that my verbal turned out to be so low.
I think while i was doing the exam... my quant questions were really tough... i got disheartened as i thought i was probbly getting most of them wrong ( i was stuck for 4:30s on the very first question!) During the verbal, the questions didn't seem as tough and I assumed my verbal section might actually compensate for my quants! I now see how silly tht was because easier questions mean i'm getting loads wrong! Anywys... i'm planning to retake in a month from now. I wanna get into UC Berkeley... their averge score is 710... so i'm hoping to improve my scores for the next time around. I took class-room bsed Princetown review course (which was an absolute waste of time & money) and then i started self-studying. The material i used: Kaplan 2009 edition with CD, Kaplan advanced test-takers, OG11. I didn't do anything else as i didn't wanna confuse myself with too much material but definitely need to look into it now. ny advice would be welcome! I recommend you to identify your weaknesses in both Math and verbal and try to study the boring, but necessary, theory. I will give you an example: Imagine that Probalilities is your weakest point. You can read all the OG stuff and even Kapplan lessons but it migh be insufficient to grasp the concept. You should research a bit deeper--use a basic statistic book-- so if you face a high difficulty problems, you can easily tackle it. I understand that GMAT questions are in average easy. However, you must focus on hard questions because those determine your score. Once you feel comfortable with your theory and practice, you should try this test. Its a bit tough in the math section, but trust me all these questions are in the test Free Online GMAT Test I hope this might help |

Tank you very much for your replies guys.
Mightyfellow, you're absolutely right. I'm gonna look into really understanding concepts and not relying on my previous techniques of identifying the correct answers... Can anyone recommend some suitable materials? I'm thinking of buying the Manhattan GMAT practisce tests, trying to locate the critical reasoning bible, as I do feel i can vastly improve my critical reasoning, and doing SETS. I'm also gonna look for the OG10. Any other recommendations?? |

I would like to say just one thing:
GMAT LEVEL HAS DRAMATICALLY INCREASED!!!!! Please consider that: Gmatprep is no more a benchmark for your score. OG10 (11 and 12) doesn't reflect the current level of GMAT. I've been working on GMAT for 2 years and I noticed how GMAT level has increased. All of these stuff are not representative of the real score. I got 3 or 4 probability problems and 2 combinatories problems last time and my scores was really low (41). According to GMATprep you only will face such a kind of questions if you get a 49 in quant. Same happens in verbal, probably worst. They have tremendously increased the level of the questions. It appears that you are doing right because apparently you have identified the mistakes but then you shocked when you see the final score. It appears that questions are really tricky now. From my experience, I also was tempting to think that I was doing ok, specially when I got a bold face question arround question 30 and then a complete the line question. It is supposed that these kind of questions are in the 600-700 level!!! Just to copy what a Manhattam GMAT Staff, dbernst, said about these questions in 2007 (BF: Kaplan • Manhattan GMAT Forums): "...these Analyze the Argument Structure questions on the GMAT are few and far between. Unless you are scoring well into the 90th+ percentile on verbal it is very unlikely that you will see one... " Well, I got questions like that, so my feellings were ok...but, you now what, my verbal score was 14!!!! "dbernst" is totally wrong, or his words don't apply anymore. I repeat: GMAT level has increased!!! Please do not assume that you will get a decent score if you have scored in the 700's on Gmatprep. In the end, I got the worst score I've ever had in the last two years of preparation. I never score a 470!!! This score for sure doesn't reflect my real level. I got 600 and 590 in the previous two attemps. How can I deteriorate my score more than 100 points in a couple of months? The same line's of reasoning applies to people in the opposite way: how can somebody increase his score more than 100 points in a month according to what he scored on GMATprep? Conclusion: GMAT algorithm or whatever the use is biased today and do not represent people's abilities accurately. What I say is that GMAT scores do not converge to the real level somebody has demostrated when practice, including, the uses of official questions (just mention that I was not nervious in the test day and I was very comfortable, so this factor was not important) What I also think is that the GMAT algorithm has changed, because it is impossible to assume that most of the people who has recently taken GMAT have the same complain about that. I suspect that GMAT sales has fallen and, after that, they increased the level, so people have to seat at least two times and then pay for two $250... In the end, there are less people taking the GMAT but they seat twice, so sales go up... What I forecast, if GMAT continue with this policy, is that more people will get bad scores and then schools will have to lower the admissions minimum because only a small group of people will get good scores. Sorry to be pesimistic but, after taking GMAT 5 times in the last two years, these are my feelings. |

Would you send me some screenshots at my personal email. I have my program installed and there is no problem with the User Interfase. As a Hint, you can get the right answers in the explanations after the test. There is a extreme but real question about Gaussian Theory. I hope you enjoy it.!! PS:I have created the site and the questions based on my former test taker and couching experience!!. Anyone is willing to take the test |

Do you know your weakest points? I might give you some feeback based on your specific weaknesses. For instance, I lacked reading comprehension skills so I had to do a customized training, reading not only a lot but also learning new words per day. Otherwise, it would be futile reading tons of information without understanding.
Best Luck in your journey! |
