760/5.5(q:50 v:42) May2009
Finished with my GMAT. This was my first attempt. I really appreciate the help that was provided through this forum. I decided to give GMAT couple of months back. Due to my hectic schedule I was unable to prepare during weekdays but I tried to cram 5-6 hours over the weekends.
I used follwoing books for my Preparation: 1) KAPLAN 800: I bought this book in hope that this will help me to get high scores . But trust me, this is useless. KAPLAN's idea of a 800 question is a question which fills half of the page and is utterly beyond the scope of GMAT.2) Princeton Review: After browsing through 2-3 guides(KAPLAN, Baron's, Manhattan) I finally settled on Princeton for a complete guide for reviewing quants, verbal and AWA. This is one of the best guidebooks available out there. Material is presented in very consistent manner with sole focus on GMAT Test. AWA templates were also very helpful. Verbal section is not very sufficient 3) Manhattan SC Guide: I used this book for SC and this was very helpful. It discussed all the intricacies and nuisances of Sentence Correction is should be self-sufficient for this section. Apart from this for practice I took KAPLAN's and Princeton's Online Tests. I've discussed in detail regarding them in the post regarding Test Scores. Wishing all the best for all the GMAT aspirants!!! |

As I mentioned, for SC I used Manhattan. Excellent Book with all the concepts and exercises in detail.
For reading comprehension, I didn't use any book in general but the guidelines that were given in Princeton which are very good. For example, the concept of "neutrality" of GMAT passages helped me nail a couple of questions. Apart from that, I think OG passages provide a good exercise. |

Great score...
Just a question: I gave my GMAT at the end of April, my scaled scores were Q49 V41 yet my total was 730. Why there is a such difference in our scores? (our scaled are very similar, we should have a 10-point gap in our total scores). |

@themiro. I don't know what is the exact method gmac uses for calculating scores. But a possible explanation is may me scaling is not linear or finnal score is calculated as a function of joint scores rather than adding individual scores
