570--(Q51,V20)--Need Help
Hi folks,
I have decided to retake the GMAT.Also, since i screwed the verbal section, i have thought to work on my verbal skills fom scratch.Do u guys suggest that i begin with wren n artin for fundamentals of SC...CZ I just did Manhattan Sc for the same plus OG 10 N 11.But after taking the test i feel,FOR ME, it wasnt sufficient and need to work on basics....So concetually i need to work on my verbal....Do u folks feel that wren n martin or a good Grammmar book can give me that start. For critical reasoning i had the powerscore critical reasoning but didnt solve it.Is that a recommended book. This time dnt want to leave any stones unturned! PLease Suggest. |

oh.. Is it 20 in verbal?
i am reading powerscore critical reasoning and can guarantee that it is best in market.. It rocks! Everything you need for GMAT.. For SC, do OG - may be twice or thrice.. I am doing it second time and focus on reasons this time.. What else? let me know if I can help you with anything. We all are in same boat and same destination.. - gotta help each other. ![]() |

Hi KrazyGmat,
Great,a positive and a fighting attitude is actually half the battle won. Well even i noticed a similar dip in my verbal during these practice CAT. I started with Wren & Martin but found it too comprehensive, detail oriented and time consuming . Try going through it for a week and you can be a better judge or else revise on Manhattan SC and look into the finer details of infinitives, participles, gerunds which are not so explicit in Manhattan SC. Secondly, critical reasoning bible is of great help and a MUST I feel. See a high score is achieved by doing tougher questions in the exam, so that tuning is provided by bible. I am sure you will experience the difference. HTH. Good Luck!! |

The critical reasoning bible does show u some valuable techniques but most of the times critical reasoning is about logic. I have seen that POE works out well in critical reasoning. SC is more technical. You have to know the rules beforehand and that always scares me.

Ironic. In my first sitting I scored a 570 as well. I believed that I could do better and in any case that score wasn't going to get me into anywhere I wanted to go so I took it again. And this time I scored 660! The difference? Prep materials. The Veritas prep materials I used were extremely comprehensive and gave you insights into how to answer questions ranging from simple to extremely advanced.
I have to point out that my one weaknesses was still following the suggestion of limiting time spent on one question. I still found myself spending too much time on a quantitative question believing that I needed just a few more seconds to find the right answer. Please do not fall into that trap. I believe I could have cracked a 700 were I not making that same mistake over and over again. If you are interested, I still have my Veritas Prep booklets (15 of them in total). I am looking to let it go for $350 because they are pretty much new, as I kept them well, but I am flexible. Reach me at 281-687-7714 if interested. Above all remain driven and be optimistic. You'll do just fine. |
