Hi There,
Sorry for the delay in writing about Verbal. Got a little busy with the app stuff which still continues .Anways for all of you seeking 40 in Verbal, I have tried to put what I did in the last one month after my first attmept (V31). I knew it was a weak area and I had to fix it. Also before my first attempt my mock tests were good because I was doing GMATprep with repeat questions...Those of you doing the same and thinking that you are prepared for Verbal may not be doing the best. Please give tests where there are no repeats. Having said that, remember this: Verbal is PRACTICE, PRACTICE AND MORE PRACTICE. There is no way other way then the old ugly method of HARD WORK. For sure, you want to strategize your hard work. I shall brief the things which I did in the last one month and what helped me. I hope some of you can benefit from the same. Please remember this is something which worked for me and the rest would depend on how you apply yourself. OG10 -> this is must. OG11 and Og12 are good but they do not compare to OG10 explanations on SC. This booked helped me a lot. First time, I never had any idea about it and then somebody suggested me on this forum when I was ready for the second time. It would have been great if I could have got a copy of the same before. Anyways for all those struggling with Verbal, get a copy of this. OG11-> Next thing after OG10. Og12-> Next thing after OG11. GMAT sets. (1-20)-> Beware of the answers. Find someone to discuss on the forum. I found a friend who helped me discussing some of the things. GMAT Manhattan SC Bible-> Good notes but solve the GRID. Please don't be lazy in solving the GRID. Its the application of the notes that get you a score and not the notes. Powerscore critical reasoning Bible--> For those who need 100% critical reasoning accuracy. Read this for 1-2 days to get a feel to how to approach the questions. Tough questions but if you learn the applications of the different methods, you critical reasoning can improve a lot. reading comprehension-> Practice 3 reading comprehension everyday from OG10. Take notes but do not waste a lot of time on that. In my second round, I was more depending on my memory than the notes. well, it depends how memory is but if you think you will remember stuff, do not waste a lot of time taking notes. Also try to connect the paragraphs. Remember someone has written the passage, try to predict the flow of the passage. READ WITH ENTHUSIASM. Read like your life depends on the passage Indeed your GMAT life does.Tests: GMATprep Manhattan tests. Daily Routine: Solved 50 questions of SC each day. Do not worry about wrong or right. Try to get why the question is what it is. Read the explanation 4-5 times from OG. They have a pattern of SC questions and once you can solve 2-3 times, you become comfotable with the pattern. Also expect idioms, most of the SC is rule based and very logical. No tricks and no guess work and no past memory fundaes. Learn the rules in and out from SC guide by Manhattan. Discuss on the forum if need be. Solved 3 passages every day. critical reasoning-> Solve 30 critical reasoning everyday and try to get 100% accurcacy. Most of us can get all of them right. Its the laziness after 10-15 questions which kills the score. Get tea, Get energy drink but definitely try to get this part right. This is very logical part and I believe good eye and a good working brain can master this part. There are some fundaes regarding BOLD FACE. Go to OG12. They have some very good bold face. Do them and understand them. Try to identify a conclusion in BOLD face first and relate the bold statements to the conclusion. Things become very easy from there on. In critical reasoning, find premise, find assumption and find conclusion. Powerscore Bible tells you this. Learn it. Sets-> Definitely do them at least 5-10 of those. Puts you in good practice. Tests-> Try to finish all the questions. For 40, you will have to get to 39 and can take guess on the last one or 2. Too many guesses will lower your score. Time yourself and increase your speed. SC gives you a chance to save time. Save with critical reasoning which are not very long. Also get the first 10-15 questions right. No matter who says what, these questions definitely determine your score. Try to get everything right, but the first 10-15 questions can definitely kill your score if not right. There is a excel time record keeper (Time Grid). Have that and time your self for every question. Once I did the above things for a month or so, my accuracy reached to: 95% in SC ~99-110% in critical reasoning 80% in reading comprehension And I was consistently scoring more than 40 in mock tests (without repeat) and I knew I was ready for the test. There is usually no magic in GMAT either ways. Its the right preparation and I lacked that the firsr time. Have a great day and hope this helps. Let me know if you any further questions. regards |
