My GMAT experience - 620 - disgruntled but determined..!
Hi,
I am new to this forum and i just decided to write in and get some tips. I gave my GMAT yesterday and to my dismay scored a 620 - Q 47, V 30 !! The irony of the situation was that.. i was always more confident about my verbal than as compared to quant. I studied passively for like 2 months maybe and seriously for 2-3 weeks.. I have always scored an average on the GMAT prep and other prep tests, but had mostly faulted on the quant owing a low score to silly mistakes. On the GMAT yesterday, i really focused and cross checked my quant answers wherever possible and tried not to do guess work except on some data sufficiency questions and the last 2 questions where i fell short of time. I am still pretty clueless about how i could have screwed up verbal to such an extent. I got the bold faced critical reasoning question for the 14th or the 15th question and i was pretty confident i was doing ok .. but the actual result really blew me away.. though i was satisfied with my quant.. i really cant get over my verbal !! And though i am dejected, i am also more than determined to cross the 700 now..! I just some basic tips as to how to go about it now..!! Any help is appreciated.. thanks a bunch !! |

Hi Shweta,
I have been through what you are going through now. I took Gmat prep yesterday and scored 570 and today 670.The only thing I did differently was I forgot about the time while doing the verbal. That doesnt mean that I took a long time solving any problem there,I just didnt look at the time too frequently.Since I am sure you realize that the low verbal score is not because your lack of knowledge. For me it was focus on the critical reasoning and SCs .One think I have realized today is that ,getting the questions right would get you a better score and then spending less time on one and guessing,if its your day,you can get 40+ but more often than not,you will mess up. Try a GMAT prep and concentrate just on solving the problems correctly and see if that works for you.My two cents. Cheers. |
