700 (first attempt 650)

I took my exam three days ago and have been very busy since then. I got 700 this time - Q 51 V 32. I am happy with 700 but not with my verbal score. I prepared a lot since my first attempt in fact, only for verbal but didn't improve anything. My last score was 650 ( Q 49 V 31) but I am not giving it again. I am done with GMAT.. I will post a detail debrief within a day.. Meanwhile, it would be great if you can answer below question -

(1) Will this low verbal hurt my chances a lot?

(2) The average score of LBS is 720. Do I stand any chance with 700 and 5 years of quality work exprience although in Indian IT.. I have 2 years of onsite work ex along with proposals, hiring, costing and staffing, project management and lot more things like this.. I have hgh rating all the time and above 75% marks in school and colleges. I have a lot of community work too to support and can pull in LORs from my DD and client directors ( I worked with these people closely and they know me very well.. )

thanks to everyone - Erin, Bob, adi, madhur, Mitzi and all of you.. You made my last few months intersting and easier.. I plan to stay around this place and help future applicants but might not be very active..

thanks,
Abhi

Congrats Abhishek! Quant 51... thats grt man.

Can you give some updates on the quant section? For that quant score, you must have got some really good quality questions. Your inputs will be helpful.. I have scheduled my test towards end of the month.

Regards,
Naveen

Congrats abhishek thats a decent score, could you please tell us more about the difficulty level of the GMAT when compared to your previous attempt. And how close is the gmat prep software in terms of difficulty.

thanks to all.. I will start writing my debrief and later you can ask if you have any question. I will be more than happy to answer.

Study Material
OG12 (a must) - Solving OG is mandatory. You actually need to see the explanation of every question even if you got answer correct.. This is a key to the minds of test makers and you can understand why a choice is correct only by understanding the explanation.. Per my experience, every choice (even incorrect) will help you solving many more questions in future..

1000 SC - A very good document and all questions at same place.. Many questions are tough and of GMAT standard. The problem is that there is no official solution.. That's where, TM comes in picture.. Almost all the questions have been discussed here.. (in fact, more than one.). I first solved the questions and then solved incorrect questions again.

Brutal SC - it is actually crux of 1000 SC.. almost all tough questions from 1000 SC.. your accuracy rate may not be very high but every question is worth.. I solved it twice..

1000 critical reasoning - There are GMAT and LSAT tests in this document.. I did all GMAT and LSAT tests.. LSATS test are very good and almost all type of questions are covered.. again there is no official explanation.. but you can solve till Test 13 of LSAT as most of the questions have been discussed somewhere.. but don't go after that.. questions have not been discussed after that.. I solved it till 26 and faced lots of problem understanding later incorrect answers so I had to stop using them..

1000 reading comprehension - a good document and have many passages.. LSAT passages are good but there are no explanation.. Don't do this.. I will tell you better source for preparing reading comprehension later in the debrief. Read Kaplan workshop and solve Kaplan tests.. You might also want to solve some Verbal tests..They have many good RCs

LSAT critical reasoning Bible - a very good book.. You must read it if you want to score high on verbal.. there is a version for GMAT also but it is almost same but fewer chapters.. You can read any book. both are fine. The book explains all types of questions and how they should be approached. . there are few tricks - denial test, variance test, agree/disagree test - make yourself familiar with these tests.. they will help you breaking the tie in your tests..

Spidey, Bob, Sumit, Gaurav, Charu, Rajat, Sahil and many more notes - almost all of them are posts picked from this forum.. These are excellent documents and better than any book you can find in market..

Kaplan workshop - best theory material on reading comprehension.. Don't bother to read other areas but reading comprehension is awesome.. they have very good reading comprehension strategy..

SC Tests - these are small good tests.. you can do these tests while travelling.. I did them while i was going to office or in lunch time..

Manhattan SC Book - very good book. You must read if you want to score high in SC. . the book also comes with 6 online tests..

800 SC, Kaplan SC - these are good document but they have almost same what you will find in these notes I mentioned above..

1000 PS-DS - It is a good document to start but actual GMAT questions are lot more difficult.. You can start with this document but you preps need to evolve lot more.. You need to solve more like Manhattan GMAT type questions..
If you are from India, you would probably be already good.. I prepared for CAT two years ago and got 95%ile so I was already comfortable with GMAT level quant.. The questions on this forum are really good.. I used to open 15-20 question windows together and copy questions in a document.. later, solve questions from this document.. I just realized that solving questions one by one on this forum was time consuming so copying them on a document was easy for me.. you can do however suits best to you but you need to solve questions on this forum if you need high marks in quant..

there are few other document like Eight Sum Ds, Hard math, mitul gmat prep, tough questions. I don't know the source of these document but they all had very good questions..

Tests
(adaptive test)
GMAT Prep (2 tests)
Power Prep (2 tests)
Princeton (3 tests)
Kaplan( 2 tests)
Arco (1 test)
Manhattan GMAT (6 tests)
800 score (5 tests)
Crack The Gmat (10 tests)

Non adaptive (paper) test
Disclosed editions (6 tests)
Verbal sets (15 sets)
SC tests (10)
Vstudy book test (2)
GMAT Plus (2)
GMAT real test (15)
Kaplan LSAT Test - I found these tests just few days before exam. The passages are tough and they have great explanations.. I found these tests very helpful.. Every answer is explained very well and passages are analyzed.. Your reading comprehension score will definitely improve if you solve these tests..

I also started reading history of america (thanks to Mitzi), history of Europe (online) and scientific america.. These made me familiar with the context.. Many people would argue that you don't need any prior knowledge for GMAT passages. I agree but these passages are actually condensed from original text and that's why they are dense. If you have some background knowledge, you will have better chances on the passage..

then there is one more thing that I did and everyone should do .. FLASH CARDS... I made approx 200 flash cards for SC, reading comprehension, critical reasoning and math formulas and used these flash cards whenever i got time.. (while waiting for bus, waiting for meeting, or any time you can find).. They keep you connected and keep your concepts fresh... once you learn a concept, you might not get time to do question related to it for a long time. these flash cards won't let you forget what you already know.. Indian students don't use it very often.. They should.

let me know if you have any question.. I will add more details later.. I am tired writing now..

I actually didn't do much for quant.. I prepared for CAT (Indian MBA entrance exam) and it had very tough quant.. I also prepared for IIT and I am engineer.. so I have been learning maths since my childhood.. that's why q51 doesn't surprise me but V32 does upsets me..
