750 (Q49, V42)

I had been planning to write this debrief for long time. Better late than never! Hope this helps you all.

Manhattan GMAT 1 = 640 (Q37, V40)
Manhattan GMAT 2 = 630 (Q42, V34)
Manhattan GMAT 3 = 600 (Q45, V28)
Manhattan GMAT 4 = 670 (Q44, V37)
Manhattan GMAT 5 = 690 (Q45, V38)
Manhattan GMAT 6 = 720 (Q50, V38)
GMAT Prep 1 = 760 (Q50, V42)
GMAT Prep 2 = 660 (Q49, V31)

Real Gmat = 750 (Q49, V42), AVA 5.5

Disclaimer … I am not going to describe every minuscule detail. I will hit on key points. Ask any specific questions in this thread & I will answer.

Key success factors
  • Clear your concepts first
I used Manhattan Gmat supplements. The concepts covered in supplements are very specific to Gmat (not too much, not too little)
  • Concentration = Being in the present
Peak vs. average can make a huge difference. For evidence – Gmat Prep 1 (760) vs. Gmat Prep 2 (660). Concentration is all about being in the present. You have to focus all your attention on the question flashing on your screen and nothing else. Avoid following moments when your concentration is likely to drop
    • You don’t feel good about your answers on first few questions. You cannot think about the past questions. Also, don’t try to decode the scoring logic. This will just make you focus too much on first few questions and loose valuable time. Evidence – On my 760 Gmat prep, I got 4 wrong in first 10 q’s. Think of every question as a Match point e.g. the way Nadal fights for every point
    • As per your timing, you are 3-4 questions behind. Don’t panic & start doing the math of how fast you should answer rest of the questions.
    • You are in the middle or towards the end of the section and you are flying high. Don’t loosen up. Potential thoughts that might come to your mind are “I can relax for few q’s, How is the next section going to be, Wow the party tonight is going to rock, I hope 700 flashes after this q”. You have to pull up your concentration 41 + 37 = 78 times.
  • Maximum preparation time 3 months
If you plan too long, you either don’t have a sense of urgency or you peak out before the exam (I did couple of weeks before the exam). 3 months is enough for a person working full time for 50 hours/week & w average skill (my baseline was 640). Exceptions such as people who never spoke etc may exist.

Few questions I was requested to answer

How I prepared?
OG11, Manhattan GMAT supplements, V review, OG 11 (repeat), V review (repeat)
6 online test from Manhattan GMAT, 2 Gmat prep test
Practice for AVA was only during the 8 tests I took

Schools I am planning to apply – I have not yet picked my schools. But evaluating, INSEAD, LBS, Harvard, IMD, ISB

Shoot any more questions

Good Luck ...

Hi Kaushik,

Congrats... thats a great score.

Have a couple of questions....
1. What was your focus in the last 15 days?
2. How different/similar was the difficulty level compared to Gmatprep?

Thanks,
Naveen
