shaanrizvi, I am not basing my conclusion on any assumption :-). I just mentioned it as another dimension to the discussion. There are so many things to be concluded from the above discussion. However, my sole point is that rather than running into the rat race (where one's skills are not valued much because of huge number of applications or some other reason), do things where you can utilize your skills efficiently. Give GMAT, but don't treat it like the final goal of life to reach that dream job or career.
BTW, I have taken GMAT :-), I am from IT background, I am an entrepreneur ( shailendra peerme - Google Search ) and I run my own company :-) I want to do MBA to get in touch with like minded entrepreneurs because I want to launch something big in IT / Technology. However, this is not a roadblock, but an option for me. That's what I am talking about. If GMAT/MBA is simply thought as a mean to change your life, then think again. It is not. You may gain certain advantage, but ultimately everything boils down to your experience, your dream and your diligence. I would rather go and work harder to achieve my dream than worrying about how to get the dream figure in GMAT if I can't crack it in a few attempts. Again, this is my personal experience / opinion. Many may differ and I have no complains against anyone :-) I wanted to bring a new dimension to the discussion and I am happy to receive / provide comments. All the best to guys working towards your dream ! And all the best for the GMAT exam and everything you are putting in to achieve your goal. |

Awesome analysis!
GMAT is one components of your portfolio, but I understand that we can set aside ourselves from the mass to get interviewed. If you really want it, you will get it! Don't ever, ever give up! one of my favorite movies 'Finding Nimo' said that 'keep swimming, keep swimming" and you will get your destination eventually. I am a firm believer for this! Here is cheer for all of us! Mitzi |

A good site to research admissions411 - Business school admission stats, interview and waitlist results, and MBA application info (411).
Things do not seem that bad for is IT guys. In the search criteria, select Software development. |

Americans score well in Verbal because it's their mother tongue. I can't imagine how miserable would be the performances of non-Indians, if Indians were running GMAC making Hindi as the verbal language rather than English....
Too good mate..I would love to see this happen in the near future... We have to score 750 in GMAT, we have to excel in extracurricular activities, we need to struggle for loan to pay THEM $100k and then work harder than everyone else to repay the loan - why just because our strength is IT and not something else? We are far better than those scoring high in English because that's the only language the have been using since their birth - what's so great about it then?.... Life is surely hard for IT guys...Very true... n I m a part of it ![]()

I empathize with you. I am also IIM (Indian/IT/Male). Even though what you tell is true, there is nothing wrong with the Selection Criteria for US universities or IIMs or ISB. At the end of the day, the main duty of these MBA schools is to produce efficient managers throughout the business spectrum. They have to produce managers for all sectors, not just IT. So, even though there are many IT people willing to do MBA, the schools can't take that many IT guys, simply because there are only a limited number of IT companies around the world and those IT companies only need limited number of managers. You might want to ask about IT people who want to change their domain of expertize. But the MBA schools don't want many people to change the domain, simply because it takes a lot of time to gain expertize in the other domain. They prefer people who keep the domain & have good experience in that domain. They might allow certain % of seats to those guys who want to change their domain. But that is still very low %. Since the number of IIM (Indian/IT/Male) guys who want to do MBA is more, and the seats are limited, there is too much competition, and hence require a good GMAT score, lots of extra curricular activities, good acads, good essays, good interview etc. The business schools are looking for well-rounded persons (reason for extra curricular activities). They are looking for guys who have been consistent through out their student life (good acads). They are looking for guys who have clear goals & who have clear plans to achieve their goals (good essays & Interview). |
