Want to add a few words regarding my preparation.
Background. I'm a 28-year old Russian man. I graduated from leading Russian University, chair of probability, and I work at big Russian bank,so the quant was an easy game for me. I'm not a native English speaker, so Verbal and AWA was muuuuch harder. But I passed FCE (Cambridge examination), and received Grade A several years ago, read Stephen King or John Grisham - two books a year, sometimes watch films in English, and listen to the music on the radio - in English, as you can imagine))) I am not used to writing in English - so AWA was a real challenge for me, and I still do not know what to expect as an official score for my AWA test...we shall see. Anyway, I will try to be concise (wordiness is one of the mistakes at SC, remember, huh?) Books Required I would recommend the following books: 1. Official Guide'11 or OG'12 (if you have got OG'11, don't worry, you don't have to buy OG'12 - there are few new questions, but mostly these books are the same). You must have one of these books (printed or electronic version), and dig through all of the questions. 2. PowerScore GMAT Critical Reasoning Bible 3. Manhattan Sentence Correction GMAT Preparation Guide, 4th edition or 3rd Edition - I've got 3rd edition, so I cannot comment on 4th edition, but it definitely is as good as the 3rd one (is it a right comparison, by the way?) 4. Kaplan GMAT 800 In this short list I mentioned ALL books that you need to master the GMAT test. If you buy/download more, they will just repeat each other, you will spend a lot of time reading the same material, you will get bored, start to pay little attention, and make no good out of such a preparation for the exam. Online Materials & Sites 1.Testmagic forum (look for 800Bob posts) 2. SC1000, CR1000, RC1000 files. (especially, SC 1000) 3. 800score.com (good for AWA) 4. mba.com (GMAT Prep software - it's a must, and good servie for AWA essay evaluation - though you have to pay for it) Results Gmat Prep 1 - 740 Gmat Prep 2 - 760 GMAT official test results - 760 will add more details shortly... stay tuned, and all the best for you guys! |
