Well, do you know what provoked him?
Its easy to see his actions but what abt Materazzi's words?
Do you know what he said to Zidane?
Why the heck is Materazzi not complaining or for that matter never even complained to referee when he was hit (when the Italians are known to dramatize everything)

I agree with ya here .. but thn knowing Italian's reputation and his own stature in the world soccer.. I expected him to behave a bit more responsibility, esp whn final of World Cup was not over tll then!

Opposition would like to provoke you many a time to distract from the game .. the trick lies in how much cool can you maintain at such time and focus on real thing.

Having said that, without doubt, Im a big fan of his !

btw Materazzi has acknowledged that he insulted Zidane.

Nobody, frankly nobody should take **** whether be it in world cup final (your family & self respect is bigger than the game surely) or on the streets!

Based on lip readers, it emerges that Materazzi insulted Zidane's sister, mother and called him a 'terrorist' suggesting that Zidane being Algerian didnt have the right to play for France.

I think Zidane should have punched him a few more times after he was sent off, what's he got to lose.

No one will ever forget his last game for France, EVER !

CTG1983 radiates success.
Yes IMO Zidane should have just kicked that moron into the goalbars of Italy. He could have done sth to that moron referee too.

But Greats are greats, irrespective of whatever they do. IMO Zidane is better than Maradona.

Not at all..
Just because Zidane is a great footballer doesnt allow him to head-butt any opponent.
Completely concur with ticktacktoe "the trick lies in how much cool can you maintain at such time and focus on real thing."
Zizou's rashness cost France the cup and if he cant take the pressure and all the assorted things, then how does he deserve to be in the same league as Pele.
Ohh well..Maradona..another genius who went wrong.."hand of GOD" and "1982 WC when he kicked a Brazilian and was red-carded"
Cannavaro should have been awarded the Best Player award.
