Hi all -

I've been reading the posts in here for the last couple of months as I've prepped for the GMAT. Now, I could really use some advice...

My background: Took the test the first time a couple of months ago, total self-study, primarily out of the PR books and practice questions. Got a 590 (q31, v40). Was really bummed. My undergrad and work experience are tight, and I want to apply to a top school. So, came across this post and read about the OG, and proceeded to embark on another 5 week study session, hammering away at every OG math question, Kaplan 800. Also hired a local math tutor to review the questions in OG I was getting incorrect.

As you can see, I did improve in the math a bit, stayed exactly the same in verbal (didn't do ANY prep for that, so wasn't surprised), but still not near my goal of 700.

What now??? My problem is the quant. I thought I had a good handle on it, but obviously not. I felt really good in my initial 10 questions, but did get squeezed for time and basically guessed the last 5.

So, any advice for those of us without the math ability? How best can I improve my quant? Any other sources? I can't afford the $1200 for a course, and I've heard they aren't worth it.

Help!!!

roborob is on the way!
Hey there,

My advice for you is to focus on your strong points... if verbal comes naturally to you, then ace it! Get a V46! I'm sure with little studying you'll be able to do that. I am guessing that will tack on atleast 30-40 points on your total score.

Now, for the math section, what are you having trouble with? DS or PS??

Robert

Thanks roborob -

I agree about leveraging my verbal strength - I have already started studying it.

The area that seems to get me is the DS. Again - I think I can solve any of the questions if I didn't have the time constraint - but I'm just not processing the info fast enough. Any math shortcuts to cut time?
