Hey folks:
Took the GMAT today. Got a 660 and very disappointed with it. I wish I had known of this site earlier and wish had a more methodical approach to the GMAT. Basically the way I studied was solving problems, problems and more problems from anywhere and everywhere and concentrating less on taking tests. My advice would be to be more structured in your approach. Take more tests. I would appreciate if anyone can comment if this score (660) with a MS in Engineering (GPA:3.7) and 3 yrs of work experience by the time I plan to apply would be enough to get into Univ of Chicago or Northwestern (Kellogg). Should I take the test again??. Please respond, would highly appreciate it. Thanks, Sachin |

Hey Sachin,
Firstly u shud not be dissapointed with 660. It is a good first attempt. Secondly if you wana got o Kellogs or Chicago, then you may have to take it again to get your score a bit higher. I am not saying that 660 won't get you in, but from what I have read, I think a higher score gives a better chance and makes thy aplication stronger. If you have the time, money and most importantly the will to go through the whole thing again, you shud do it without a doubt. Remember better score = more chance (not guarantee) of getting in, its that simple. Good luck Rohit. |

Sachin,
660 is a good score to start with. This doesnt mean that you should take it again, and it also doesnt mean that you shouldnt. Let me explain what I mean. 660 is like a Toyota Camry. Its a descent score, and it wont turn heads.. its okay for some of the B+ schools. If you are interested in a Lexus or BMW... you would have to work harder. Now my advise to you is to take it again. Aim for the sky ! You dont have too long to go.. give it another shot after 3-4 weeks of intense prep. Since you already studied for this test, you wont have to go over too much. Get another book, try some more problems... and you will cross 700 ! Good luck. |
