Even though BODMAS is correct rule, it lacks info about the exponential order. Use BEDMAS instead to arrive at the correct order.
Bracket, exp, div, multi, add, sub.
This rule is commonly known as PEDMAS, with P meaning parenthesis.

....I had read long time back some rule like - BODMAS (Bracket Off Division Multiplication Addition Subtraction).. Based on this.. 1st we have to solve quantities inside the bracket... so 1st we solve (4^2) which gives 16 and then find (16)^(1/2) which is equivalent to the other case of directly solving (16)^1/2

Maybe i am missing a point somwhere.. can u please tell the priority/hierarcy for arithmetic operations ?



Why is it not +-4 ?

-4 * -4 = 16
4 * 4 = 16
So root of 16 = -4, 4

I agree with you. -4 is a sq root of 16.
