GREMAT just joined TestMagic.
720 Q49 V38 (from 590 to 720)

Yiiiiihaaaa! I did it!! I can¸t believe this!!!

First of all, I owe this success to you guys at this wonderful forum.

When I started preparing for the test in summer 2005, I only had PR book and Power Prep software. I scored 590 and thought that was a good score. 700+ seemed like an impossible mission to me, and so did applying to top 10 schools. Then I switched to the GRE as I wanted to apply for a scholarship in Economics. I scored Q 82% and V 54% on the GRE and I saw that my quant became stronger. I only used PR GRE book.

After failing to obtain the scholarship, I switched back to the GMAT. Even without any prep, I scored 630 on Power Prep with q49. This was a sign that I can do much better than 590. I decided to strengthen my verbal and practice more quant so I bought OG11, OG11Quant and OG11Verbal, Kaplan 2007, Kaplan 800. I went through all these books and could not score over 650 on the prep tests.

Then I started searching the Internet for the advice and saw Ursulaş blog. I read her and Twinsplitterş debriefs and I was amazed. They said that TestMagic Forum was a great place for preparing to break the 700 limit. I started visiting the forum, but as my country was very underdeveloped, the only internet connection available was dial-up. This was too slow for viewing TM and I spent a lot of time opening threads so I could not participate much on the TM. I took the real test again and scored 660 – verbal screwed my score. I hoped for 700. I was very depressed as I prepared more than 6 months for this battle and I lost it. I felt that scoring 80% in the verbal for me was unreal expectation as I am not a native English speaker nor I ever lived in such an environment.

Then the cable internet appeared in my town. I immediatelly bought the cable package and then I saw what the real good connection was like. Incredible. (People in developed countries have had Cable and DSL for years, and we are getting it yet now...) I started participating in TM actively and you guys brought my hope back. I found posts by GMAT-HELP and 800Bob very sophisticated so I tried to learn from them as much as I could. I found gmatnetwork yahoo group and there was a large amount of prep material. Jjs (I still do not know what this abr. means, he he) were helpful and similar to the real test. I actually saw a few qs at the real test that were the same as qs from mjjs. However, I believe that Manhattan GMAT Q is too hard and complex compared to the real test, but it is indeed a great conceptual practice. For verbal, I did OG and 1000sc. I used several reading comprehension from 3000RC and maybe a hundred critical reasoning from 1000CR. Most of my wrong answers were in SC so I concentrated on this area.

The real test was not tough nor surprising. All questions were straightforward and had similar concepts to those seen in TM Forum. Percents, simple geometry, DS with inequalities and averages, simple probability, nothing special (I just do not understand why my Q score is 49 and not 51-probably stupid mistakes) Just participate actively here, do mjjs and do not worry about the real test. The most important thing is to be calm and self-confident. Practice in timed conditions and take several full-lenght Gprep tests with essays. I was loosing concentration at the end of verbal...

I wish I could gather all of you guys from TM together at one place and take you to a dinner and then to a party at some great night club. I¸d like to meet you in person, but who knows, maybe some of us will meet someday...

My main point is that you should really push yourself to your limits and find out what are you really capable of. Sometimes we just think that we can¸t achieve something, but if you want it and want to spend time and other resources to achieve it, there is a great possibility that you actually can do it. My GMAT story is an example of this.

I¸d like to thank Erin for starting this great forum. I am very gratefull for the support and help of GMAT-HELP, KevinSpain, MyDreamGMAT, JustMe123, Skarya, CharyMulye, Clinton, Chatru, G.Unit, Siddharth, Kumaril, and also thanks to 800Bob, Twinsplitter, Gschmilinsky, Manish, Ursula, Chix, CTG and other gurus who left a lot of great posts here in this forum.

I wish you all the best and I hope that your dreams will come true too. I will be around from time to time to solve a problem or two and to see what is new with your progress.

Best regards,

GREMAT
