Hi All,

I just finished my GMAT and score 540(45 quantitative and 20 Verbal).I really need your help. my goal was to get above 700. I am good at maths and as you can see,Iam so dull in verbal(ofcourse today got to know perfectly about my english skills). At home i used to get 30-32 right in practice tests, but looks like i totally screwed up while taking the exam. I prepared well(as far as I know) before exam. I started preparation with OG and then added kaplan 2003(without CD) and princeton review to my preparation. But still I need to improve my verbal skills.
Please advise me how should i improve on my verbal skills and i am not a native english speaker.I want to retake GMAT within a month or so.But First anyone, pls pls tell me how I can improve my score.Do I need to join any course for GMAT English.

Thanks
Priya

Hi,
in my limited opinion, you have to first see which parts of english you are weak in. is it sentence correction, critical reasoning or the reading comp or is it all of them. What did you find most challenging in test. And then target each area slowly making sure that you make progress in each. Look where you are going wrong and why. Develop a way to tackle each area and use that consistently, don't keep wavering from that. Good reading will certainly help you, sentence corrections needs a lot of practise till you start to look for the erros like pronouns, subject verb agreement, modifiers and get comfortable with these in testing environments. your quant seems pretty good, so you basically need to work on verbal slowly but surely, making progress each day, make notes and keep referring back to them and expanding them.
hope this helps, i know how you feel when you have a certain expectation and the exam just blows you out.
