    560 (q46, V22) ----> 670 (q47,v35)

    Hi TestMagicians,

I took my second attempt at GMAT a couple of days back and scored 670 (Q47,V35) . I had taken my first shot at GMAT in August 2006 and scored merely 560 (Q46,V22) and AWA 5.5 .I am overjoyed with this second score.

My sincere thanks to all the members who post useful materials and information for the benefit of others. I have definitely benefited a lot from this forum.

I was a silent member on this forum and used to read the de-briefs and information of other members and I must say they helped me a lot.

I will post my de-brief on this thread soon......

    Thanks again,
    Hitesh

    My de-brief of GMAT:

I gave my first attempt in Aug 2006 and scored 560 (q46,v22).
I was completely shattered as i had put in two months of hard work. But may be my strategy was wrong.
Immediately after after this attempt , i decided to take a break of couple of weeks from studies and to come back with a vengeance.

First of all, i did a study of my score as to where exactly did i go wrong even after so much preparation. I realised that my math and AWA were in place and only Verbal needed to be refined. So my next step was to attack Verbal with full force. I devoted about 90 % of my preparatime time only for Verbal. I set a target to achieve ATLEAST 35 in Verbal. I also decided that until and unless i get 35 in Verbal in my practice tests, i wont book the date.

So I started my prep for verbal from Kaplan 800, Kaplan Verbal , OG Verbal,1000 sc,cr and rc and few notes downloaded from different websites. I realised that there is no point simply solving questions without knowing the basics. I am listing down my strategies for RC, CR and SC in that order.
Reading Comprehension: In my preparation for first attempt, I used to read RC as fast as i could and the result was my accuracy went down. This time i decided that i will understand the matter as clearly as possible, no matter how much time i take. So initially i used to take about 6-7 min to read each passage but i made sure that i understand the content. Gradually with practice, i brought down my time to read each passage.
Critical Reasoning: I made sure that i understand the argument , what it is saying, what logic is used and only after understanding the argument i used to go to the options and not before that. I realised that this strategy helped me increase my hit-rate.
Sentence Correction: My first step was to understand Grammar and its rules. After knowing the basics of grammar such as Noun , verb, adjective, etc. , I referred to Manhattan SC. This book is Fantabulous for SC.

    My scores:

    GmatPrep 1: 690 (q48,v36)
    GmatPrep 2 :650 (q47,v33)
800score tests: Took only verbal sections, here i scored 30,31,33,34 in verbal as scaled scores

As i touched 36 in Verbal, i knew that i am almost there (recall that i had set a target of ATLEAST 35 in Verbal). So after after giving these tests, i took the date of immediately next day.

    G-Day:
My AWA was fine. Argument was moderate and Issue was easy.

Math section was quite good. Word problems were slightly tricky. Had to guess last Question.

Verbal section started with a SC qn which was of medium level of difficulty. I got first RC passage on 8th or 9th qn. To solve RC, CR and SC I used the strategies which i have just mentioned above. I had to guess last 3-4 qns.

When the test asked me whether to view the score, I closed my eyes and remembered God . Then opened my eyes to see 670 (Q47,V 35). So that means i achieved the target of 35 in Verbal

Now I am busy preparing my applications.

All the best to all those who scored less in their first attempt. Never give up. Do your best. Have strategies in place. Work hard and more important work smartly........and the rest will follow.........

If you need any help or advice, you can PM me. I will be more than happy to answer your queries.

    Good luck,
    Hitesh

Fantastic improvement. Congratulations. Would you say that the quant you saw is the same as OG level? How many number properties questions did you see? I'm unconcerned about verbal, but I'm targeting 47/48 in quant so your feed back would be helpful. Thanks.

    Thanks friends,

    Natedog,
The number probls i saw on gmat were mostly of the type from OG 11 where as word problems were very tricky. One could compare those probs from Kaplan .

congratulations, that's a really impressive score improvement! Great job on the studying! People shouldn't definetly follow your study hints for the verbal section. Good luck with b-schools!
