Help me decipher this
Hi Friends,
Looking for some help in knowing what is going on wrong with my scores. Some background about me. I took GMAT in a half-baked attempt some 3years go and ended up with a 640 (Q47 V31). I rate my verbal skills far better than what my scores might reflect. I came back from a self-imposed sabbatical to take GMAT again this year (November 22nd) to apply for ISB - 2006. This is the scores so far from the 5 tests that I have taken so far (my prep started sometime 3-4weeks ago): PR1 : 650 Kaplan 1: 710 PR2 : 640 PP1: 730 Kaplan 2: 700 As my friend remarked on hearing my Kaplan scores - "Either you are going to crack GMAT big time or the software is screwed up" I have a couple of questions to ask: (a) I have the tests from PR 2005 edition which are really screwy because they show an id number on top. The higher it is, the harder the questions get, which is actually quite unnerving when you are taking the test. But more than that, the scoring pattern is buggy. I ended up getting 8 wrongs in one of the tests and it gave me a 40 raw score in quant Is this the same Princeton Review most people say is a cake walk ?(b) Is Kaplan the same tests that I have ? The "Higher Score" CD which has the swanky car dashboard showing the roadmap. I have this CD from around 2002 (really old). If yes, then how come I am able to achieve a 700+ with such consumate ease ? (Infact in the last test I took a 10min break in Quant only to appallingly click away on the last few questions and worse still - commit the cardinal sin in GMAT by leaving a couple of questions UNANSWERED) (c) This is an age old question, but I still am looking out for the answer. Though the initial questions might have more weight attached, still, what is the penalty for loosing out on say 8 out of the last 10 questions ? Considering you have very few mistakes in the first 20 or so question (This is what has happened to me in each of the tests I got a 700+ in) (d) Is there a greater penalty in getting a string of wrong answers ? (as opposed to getting every alternate question wrong). I mean a string of say 5 mistakes instead of 5 wrongs out of 10 questions. Thanks for the patience in reading through this post. Hope to get some helpful advice. Arun |

PR must be easier
I am new to this board but I'm finding it to be the most helpful. Hopefully I can do well on GMAT, I've already taken it 2x. My goal is to get 700+ but right now I can't even break 600 on the actual exams when I'm doing it on practice ones so not sure what is going on there. No clue why my math went down but now I'm determined to get 99%, I just feel like that is my best chance. Verbal probably won't be much better than 32 (69%) but on PR I managed to get 41 (93%) so I have no clue what I did right on that vs other tests. And I cracked a 51 (99%) on PR math so I have to say PR is much easier than the rest of the tests.
