Done finally. Thanks a lot to this forum. I owe every bit of it to the help provided by members of this forum in terms of study material and preparation strategy.
A word of caution to those of you who are banking on the Quant. section - it's tough and it gets tougher until u make quite a few mistakes. GMAT prep is a perfect replica of the real GMAT. In fact almost everyone I know or took advice from has scored the same on the real GMAT n GMAT prep (me included). OG is the Holy Grail of GMAT. Verbal is more or less of the same level as in the OG. However, Quant. is a bit tougher than in the OG. Be thorough with the OG. If thy lucky then u'll see a few questions from the OG in the GMAT. I got 2 DS and 2 SC questions from the OG. During the exam don't be disheartened if after being pounded by tough questions you end up getting a series of much simpler questions. I breezed through the last 10 questions in Quant. within 10 minutes. My preparation was based primarily on the OG and the 1000 questions series (for Verbal) and spanned around 3 months. Apart from these, I took the mock tests of 800score.com, a few from the sets (which i would not recommend), Kaplan (read demoralizer - u'd do good to stay away from Kaplan), Princeton Review (quite good as far as verbal is concerned - is almost similar to the real GMAT although the scoring in PR is arbitrary) and GMAT Prep. For those of you who have the GMAT coming up within a couple of weeks or so, make sure that thy thorough with the OG and in case thy able to score above 700 in GMAT prep. take a chill pill. Exam center conditions are very very professional. I guess even that is standardized - thy not even allowed to take a hanky inside (which i needed a lot because i was down with viral) :-( anyways..... otherwise the administrators are very courteous. For those Indian engineers like me who find verbal (read reading comprehension) daunting, OG and Manhattan are the best and the most reliable sources. Had I given more time to reading comprehension, I could have done better in Verbal. Moreover, I arrogantly presumed that I'd do well in Quant. until I faced GMAT prep and realized how bad it can get. :-)) Anyways, it's all over now - thankfully. Am looking forward to a good apping season. In case someone needs more advice/guidance/study material feel free to contact me at tvikramsingh@gmail.com Best of luck to you all. - Vikram |
