congrats ....on a fantastic score and in 4 weeks of prep !!!
best wishes for apps
Hi,
Although I've been a frequent reader of this forum for the past few weeks, I haven't really contributed much. However, I took my GMAT today and thought I'd share my 2 cents.
I prepared for exactly 4 weeks, 2-3 hrs a day. I prepared only from Official Guide and Princeton Review. I took 7-8 full length practice tests. My weaknesses were careless mistakes in Quant (question asks for diameter, I would read it as radius) and accuracy in Verbal (rarely got more than 50% correct in RCs).
Anyways, my actual GMAT experience was pretty good. I spent my last day before the GMAT reading sample AWA essays. This is the first time I did any preparation on the AWA. I think it went pretty well but will wait for my scores until further comment on this :-)
The quant section started well. However, it got challenging really quick. There were atleast 5-6 questions that were difficult (relative to what I had seen on practice tests) and I was unable to come to the right answer even in 3-4 minutes. I took an intelligent guess and moved on. Since the questions kept getting more difficult, I knew I wasnt messing up. I managed to finish quant with less than 10 seconds to spare.
Next, like a complete nutcase, I managed to exceed my break by 3 minutes! That left me with 72 minutes to finish verbal. Not too exciting considering I wasnt able to complete verbal in some of my practice tests. Anyways, I found the verbal to be far simpler than the practice tests. The RCs weren't all bad and more often than not, I was able to narrow down to a single answer pretty quickly. I finally managed to finish my verbal with 16 seconds to spare.
Actual GMAT Score 770
Practice Tests (Most recent on top)
GMAT Prep Test 2 - 720
Princeton Review Free Online Test - 730
Crack GMAT Test #1 - 690
GMAC ETS Test Code 55 - 760

So guys - despite what you go thru' during the prep phase, believe in yourself and you can increase your score by 100+ points!
Thanks

personal statement - I'd like to think that a steady diet of margarita's and vodka during the 4 week prep helped me too! Try that at your own risk ;-)
