    Hi guys!

    I am new to the forum, but it seems super helpful. I took my GMAT today and scored 710. Did a lot of prep including a 4week Kaplan course and Kaplan 800 book + the Official Guide plus Kaplan prep tests and GMATPrep tests.

    I was quite disappointed by my score as I had 720 in both GMATPrep tests and Kaplan test average across 4 tests of 680.

    For my 710 I had 89th percentile verbal and 79th percentile (ouch!) quant. I work in finance (investment banking and PE), so was very surprised by the bad result, also because had good results in prep.

    I want to retake the exam. Any ideas on what to do to boost score above the 730 mark?

    Thanks a lot in advance!

    Dude101

    Read the responses to the countless other posts asking the same question. Maybe have your summer intern do it for you. Improving from 710 to 730 won't be hard for you. It will basically boil down to improving your weaknesses and understanding why the wrong answer you chose is incorrect. There are certain rules you might not be aware of etc. Not all of it boils down to being smart, and pitch books and spreadsheets aren't going to help you get a good quant score. On the other hand you could probably retake the exam in a week and get a 730 if you study efficiently. Good luck.

    You have 710. You ain't happy with that. You want to increase it by another 20 points.
    You already have a good score Dude101. Remember, GMAT is just another criteria for MBA admission. you are anyway eligible for almost all the B Schools in US.

    Personally, i would have accepted a score of 710. I don't understand how 20 more points are going to increase your chances of making it to a good B School. As i said earlier,you are already eligible for many good B Schools.

    Anyways,solve as many GMATprep problems as possible. I will post a document which has few really tough/tricky questions on PS and DS. Try solving those as well.

    See if that helps.

    Kill GMat ,
    Just one more Q.
    What concepts were the SCs testing? was it clear SV agreement / idiom / etc OR was it testing some "exception cases" of grammar. For the later, we need to know too much grammar.

    Best thing about SCs in real GMAT is, if your concepts are clear then you can easily identify the flaws in the given sentence.

    Usually GMAT SCs are in this format-

    1)NO flaws
    2)basic concepts being tested(idioms,quantity words,word usage,||ism..etc)
    3)Few options will rectify these errors but they will introduce new errors
    4) You will never come across a SC where you will find all options wrong.
    5)If you have done enough practice then this section(SC) should be a ake walk for you)

    Oh yes, DI needs lot of practice. It can be very tricky at times. If you dont have enough practice then you often tend to make lot of silly mistakes.

    Like both the statements resulting in same equations...

    stmt1 -> 3x+y = 4
    stmt2 -> 6x+2y=8

    So be extra careful when you are dealing with DI section.
    conceptrate more on following areas when it comes to DI -
    1)Average/Median/Standard deviation
    2)Rate (speed-distance)
    3)GMAC has started testing a lot on Number theories. So make sure you have done enough practice on that as well.

    Apart from this, you shouldnt find any problem with DI.
    Best thing about DI is , you dont have to solve the stmt till the end. Once you know that stmt is not giving conclusive answer , then you can discard that stmt

    But this approach can backfire as well, because we tend to be careless and often make silly mistakes.

    Use AD/BCE formula .
