590 (q:38 V:34) 63 percentile
Took the exam on tuesday, iam obviously not happy at all with my score. I got this score when i gave the GMAT prep withouth any prepration and after preparing for 6 months i have not moved forward at all. it feels that i have not prepared at all.
I am clueless and have no idea how to go forward from here. The Gmat Prep i attemted a few weeks before the exam i scored 680 and i have scored between 660 and 680. I am very dissapointed with my score. I have gone through the MGMAT SC Guide and done the OG questions. I have realised that withouth improving my quant score i may not cross the 700 mark. I need your guidance TMians, people who are good in quant please help, i was really weak in quant and use to fail in mathematics, this happened till class 10. I have slogged in maths and have reached a stage where i was able to solve some problems on this site. I urge all the people who are good in quant to recommend me a book or any technique that you guys can tell me that will help crack quant in GMAT. In quant i am weak in number property, averages. In the verbal section i have major problems in sentence correction.After geting a low score i am still confident that i can break the 700 barrier as i have seen other people do it e.g. TBAY. I need yourhelp guys, please help me crack the GMAT.

First things first.Lot of people might find this really stupid, but I believe it will help.Change your name from "mathphobia" to something like say "Conquer Quant" or whatever you like, which is positive because this reflects the state of your mind.
Second, as I see you are from India, I am pretty sure you can easily achive 47-48 in Quant with a bit of effort and confidence as the GMAT Quant is already covered in the lower secondary level. So, 1)Stop seeing yourself as someone who is weak in Maths 2)See yourself achiveing high scores. 3)Do all the questions in OG 4)For some additional practice, do the 1000 PS and DS series 5)Once you are above 44-45 level mark, start solving questions from the Math forum here |

I second MCapri here... Let us start from the very beginning and with a positive attitude.
The rest will follow. Do all the Quant questions posted in TM.... dont solve, understand and solve, I am sure in a week's time you will be able to touch 42 in Quant and then continue with your rigour |

This may sound odd but you should buy the DVD called "The Secret" and watch it ten times. I am in the same spot (scoring lower than I'd like to). Watch it and follow what they say. If you have a score in your head and keep believing you will get it.. you will.
Just try it.. rent it and test it out on a practice test. Really believe you will get that score.. do not have any doubt. |

M Capri, Suchi Kumar, Gmater-1 and Meggieski i thank all of you for your advice, changing my name would mean i will have to create a new id. I will do it.
But do you have any suggestions on how to raise my score. vbmenu_register("postmenu_616657", true); vbmenu_register("postmenu_616177", true);

I think do the first 200 questions and understand the concept.. dont time yourself.. understand each and every question in that.. Also, you need to know what mistake you make.. knowing the topic is not enough.. for eg, if algebra is not good make a list of mistakes you make in algebra.. do you have difficulty with inequality.. if you have a pbl with inequality what is the pbl.. do you not understand if the equality is negative.. or whatever... make such a file and see what you exactly need to review... This way your file will tell you waht is to be done... for eg: you might get an ans wrong if you made "+" "-".. this is a careless error.. see how many times you make such errors and if this happens often you need to work on being alert... Try knowing your exact mistake first... I am sure Quant is not far away for you.. if you know what is going wrong |

thanks suchi. i think this is a good strategy to improve in quant. Find out the areas in which i am weak and them work on those areas.
