done duna done with it - 710 (Q49 Q37)
Olla all,
NOTE: Most Important is to understand that its just a stupid exam. It has nothing absolutely nothing to do with how smart or how good you are. This is how I feel about any exam. Because I could have got the best of my scores from quant(50-gmat prep2 first attempt) and verbal (42- gmat prep1 first attempt) and got 750 too. The target was to get anything above 700. So I guess should not complain at all. Here's the scores I got during my practice, I do not remember the Quant and Verbal split. GmatPrep 1 - 710, 730 (some repeats)(Quant was always between 48 - 50) Gmat Prep 2 - 740, 720 (some repeats)(Verbal varied from 36 - 42) Kaplan - 580, 610 - It seem pointless and so stopped doing it, ofcourse did not have time either Princeton online - 730 Manhattan online - 690 Power prep - 720, 730 (Repeats) The funny part was that all I prepared during close to 7 weeks prep was sentence correction and that remained my weakest point till the last. The reason might be that I was too lazy to pick Manhattan and do it from scratch. I think the most important thing was that if I got good accuracy in SC, I could score 750 above. But I just couldn't figure it out. So many rules, so many idioms, so many exceptions , after a point it was like trying to hit a moving target. The last GmatPrep I gave, I got 7 SC wrong (not abnormal by my standard), 1 RC wrong and 1 CR wrong (not abnormal by my standard) So no advice on SC. RC and CR always went by my hunch (no real method here too ) My funda was that if you understand the passage or the argument clearly you can get it right. I had a 95% - 100 % accuracy on it. Maths was a shocker. I realised 2 week before my exam that I was not as good as I thought. Ofcourse, as I expected could not get the 50 I was expecting. My major problem was that I could get the toughest question right but get the easiest question wrong . I just could not figure out how to fix it, the harder I tried the worst it got. D Day -- The previous day I was stuck in a meeting till 4.30 PM. Reached home by like 5.30. Went to a near by temple, read some hanuman chalisa. Some where I felt that it really helped in calming my nerves. I got so calm that I came back and did not revise anything. My exam was scheduled at 8.00 in the morning. Funny part was that I wrote 7500 greenbay road and was searching the center at 6500 greenbay road. Anyway, I kept 30 min extra, which helped. The test started with AWA, I practiced for it once. It went fine. The strategy (I know i know finally I have a strategy) was to have a summary , 3 paras and a conclusion. Took a 10 min break. Started QUANT, I thought I was on cruise control. For some reason, I thought it was going really good. I finished it in 60 min. Took the next 10 min break. Verbal, again was going really good. I knew no matter what I do I will get my SC's wrong, so made sure I don't screw up my RC and CR. Again finished the section 10 min before. Because the whole thing went so well, I thought I would see something like 740. ![]() ... Anyway, I did not feel too bad. Relaxed now. I have to figure out what to do with the score now. I want to take this oppurtunity to thank all who helped me in the process.. esp sourav16 , Queen09, Diehard, hina and queen02 and many others who helped me in my journey, which was very painfull (not really used to studying at all). I have missed my cricket, tennis and volley ball, which I m gonna start right at this moment. Let me know guys, if you guys need any help. Debriefs have been the biggest motivations for me. I used to read it everyday. I m not reviewing what i wrote so excuse me if there are any grammetical !! errors ... Last edited by bholebaba : 09-07-2008 at 06:38 PM. |

Congratulations!
Was quant and verbal part like gmatprep? My problem is...i'm scoring around 700 in gmatprep exams but around 630-650 in Mgmats. I do not know which one to rely on, hence hesitant to take up a date. I have the same problem....SC is one of my weakest. Verbal is around 33-35. Perhaps, I should concentrate on RC and CR too. QUant is around 47-49. I'm utterly confused. How was the real thing as compared to gmatpreps or mgmats? Coments please ![]() |

First, I never gave MGMAT. I did not have time. With work and 7 weeks of prep, I just couldnt do too much. (Laziness also a important factor here - I always had some excuse for not to study) Like I said, I finished way too in advance. I had like 15 min left on quant, I thought I aced it. For whatever reason, I felt like it was easier than GMAT Prep. Can't really say. I scored couple of 50's on gmat prep and a 48 and a 49. Again like i said, the biggest problem was I always made sure that i make stupid mistakes ![]() ![]() For verbal, actually i got a couple 40 + scores on gmat prep. I would say if you feel like you are doing really good on RC and CR and reasonable on SC. I would say go for it. One more thing, from my experience, whatever little I have. See I m not the most serious guy on earth, so for me taking an EXAM DATE WAS VERY VERY IMPORTANT. Looking at your practice test, I would say give yourself a 3 weeks and go for it. Thanks dude, I was just overwhelmed with number of rules in SC, esp the idioms. I always got those wrong and everytime it was a new idiom. I m not really good at cramming rules. Like I said, I was expecting a 730, but may be 710 is ok. I have to figure out if I can get in to some good school.

Congrats buddy! You have crossed the 700 mark.
Could you please compare the variety of question you have faced in quant ( SD, mean, inequalities)?? Were the SC questions too long? Is CR in par with OG? Thanks in advance. |

The standard of question you post on quant, I think you should be fine. This is GMAT, how difficult can it be. Key is not to make stupid mistakes. Well I had a lot inequality problems and couple of mean and a SD question. nothing out of the world. You know a lot of SC question were weird, nothing like I had seen. I mean one of the question had paranthesis and one of the question had like 3 dashes at different place in each option . I had a good mixture of SC. A couple long ones, rest were ok. IDIOMS man very important. CR were fine. I actually did not read any book for CR, so cannot clearly say what is tough and what is not. Did last 50 question of OG, I would say all the question on the on GMAT were that level. Nothing out of the world. |
