1470 GRE: 800 Q, 670 V AWA awaited as usual

hello good folks of testmagic,
i gave my GRE today, 22nd sept, 08 in mumbai. it was a really great experience, especially 'coz of the fact that i was able to get a pretty decent score . as usual, both my quants and verbal went really bad (atleast thats what i thought), and i was contemplating on wether to cancel the exam when the final prompt on the reporting of the scores showed up. but since i didnt really have the time and most importantly the money to spend on an exam like this, i thought of just clicking proceed.
i would just like to thank this site and its users for the fantastic threads and discussion forums.
i've been frequenting the forums of this wonderful site for just a couple of weeks now, and only joined when there was all but a week left for my exam. this forum has been really helpful, in the sense that it has provided some sort of companionship in the final days in the run to my exam. the forums on various topics had been of huge help, especially this 'just finished my GRE' thread, which was instrumental in showing me the way and to an extent calming my nerves, luckily cause most of them suggested doing things which i had already done, or was in the process of doing.
most of all i would like to thank the user 'goldust' for his beautiful on how his exam went and applaud his patience in answering everyone of the other users minor quibbles on the issue long after his GRE got over. his inputs in other forums were very helpful too.

http://www.urch.com/forums/just-fini...a-awaited.html (1570 GRE V:770 Q:800 AWA:Awaited)

truly a gem of a person. goldust my mann, i must've read your thread, the whole of page 1 about ten times.
the inspiring accounts of 'chestnut.cc' were also very very helpful.

http://www.urch.com/forums/just-fini...a-awaited.html (1560 GRE: 760 Verbal 800 Quant AWA awaited)

it was geek_goddess's thread which motivated me to click 'proceed' when the final prompt on wether to report the scores or not popped up.

http://www.urch.com/forums/just-fini...l-shocked.html (1600- shell-shocked.)

also one great thing i found about this forum was, while solving a problem on analogies from BB or anywhere else, whenever i had some misgivings about a certain set of words, i would just google the question and the very first result (and the most exact) would be a link from 1 of the forums on test magic discussing that question. i had done this about 7-8 times, and every time the 1st result was test magic. this helped me a lot.
other forums on maths and verbal are just fantastic.
here's a great collections of problems by rarely heard from but very popular 'rezbipul'. it has about 50 odd problems each on 11 or so different topics like averages, permut-combi, probability (so 550 odd problems, with explanations ofcourse) that are really really difficult but comprehensive, so i suggest only those who have a sufficient amount of time for their exams attempt them.

http://www.urch.com/forums/gre-math/...ollection.html (Math Problems Collection)

the moderator has closed the thread so it wont remain afloat for very long. i really suggest you guys bookmark the page or just quickly down the attachment.

as i said, i joined this site just a week ago, and came to know about this problem set just on fri, so i really did'nt solve as much, but still managed to get 800 in quants. thats why i'm stressing that only those who have plenty of time try out these problems just to hone their mathematical skills.
so thanks again every1. in all my practice tests, from kaplan, powerprep, grebible anything...i never really got more than 790, but today my quants score reads 800. so remember, impossible is nothing. the adidas ads featuring lionel messi and sachin tendulkar are abolutely on the mark. all the best.
cheers!

Nice work, davy.jones. Congrats on the great score. And I agree that Google throws up TM as the first link to most questions. I went a step ahead and created a keyword search for TM in Firefox. Now, whenever I type "gre something", it searches for something in the forums directly.

buddy for that quant score........n congrats u finally conquered the gre.

i'm aspirant for graduate school in economics and have just two months for gre. i'm really targeting quant score near 800 and verbal >720. I would appreciate if you can advise about the materials I should buy...have already gone through review and strategies of barrons and working on vocab.

do you think 2 months would help me achieve that score??

thanks

dude, 2 months is enough to do the math portion 4 times over. your main focus has to be on verbal. and especially the RCs. try as much as u can to dispel your fears of reading comprehension.
in my gre, i got a 105 line passage as the 9th question, and that really made me nervous. i feel if i had a better grasp on RCs i would've scored much better in verbal. but all thats inconsequential now. later on in the test i realised that, the width of the 105 line passage was way narrower than the width of the 2 - 35 line passages i got, so that 105 line passage is actually nothing but a normal 70-85 line passage which we all normally get in our practice tests. so this is just a heads up for all u future test takers.
visit all the links which i've posted above. those big-wigs have churned out scores of more than 1550. u hav 2 mnths to go now, so do whatever they say.
i strongly suggest you buy NOVA. i had its pdf file which i just skimmed through (the math & the AWA section) which was in itself very helpful since i had acquired it only 4 days before my exam. and get BIG BOOK. its awesome. ETS must've been really high on dope when they thought of publishing the book.
get your word lists done atleast twice, as soon as possible. rest all should be fine.
i dont wanna repeat all the names and furnish a critique on each one, which would be the same thing what the other test givers i've mentioned have said.
but yea, i've gotto say 1 thing, powerprep is not the end of the world.
i had given powerprep 1 a month before my gre and i fared abysmally in it. 740 Q & 460 V.
it was really bad. but i stayed strong, and worked harder on the mistakes i had made, mostly in RCs and SCs in verbal and the silly epidemic in quants. in 1 of the questions i had gotten wrong, i actually, and i'm not making this up, i had put 8x9=64. that same evening, while looking for assurances on testmagic about my sanity, when i bumped into this enlightening thread.

http://www.urch.com/forums/gre/11422...st-takers.html (How to get a high GRE quant score - For average math or non-math test takers)

really saved me. guyz, really give it a look. i'm sure every1 will surely be able to relate to it.
cheers!

Sorry to butt in, but Big Book is a book published by ETS, whereas GRE Bible is a software (and not a very good one, I might add).

Kkaman, there are many vocabulary softwares available, like vocabulary wizard etc... you can use them
