Angry What a disaster. 600V 660Q

I can't believe I spent the last month studying for that thing.

After I did the AW, I got the quantitative section and it went very smoothly. After I finished it, I was feeling very confident that I'd get over a 760. Then came the verbal section, which was a lot harder than on my practice tests. I learned over 3000 words, of which only 2 were on the test.

And then I got another quant section! To make matters worse, on the second question, I clicked C instead of D and I didn't notice until I clicked confirm...

I'm guessing my second quant section was scored.

Well, I was planning on going to engineering grad school, but now I think I'm not cut out for it...

hey science420!

i'm sorry to know that you didn't do will in your exam

although your verbal score is very good i don't know whether you can apply for an engineering school because of your quantitative score.

never be sad.... sometimes bad things do happen and really it can make us frustrated.
I believe that you did your best but it appears that bad luck was sitting next to you

anyway, never lose hope and if you decided to retake the exam, try to concentrate on your point of weakness and try to pay more attention during the exam in order to avoid small mistakes.

best of luck to you science420 in your next exam.

how can you be sure that the second quant. exam be scored???
was the last question asking you to enter a number instead of multiple choice question???

thanks for the reply samarfadl.

I checked US news and world report, and my quant score is lower than the average of all but a few schools. I was hoping to get into a more prestigious school.

The first quant section I took had a the last question ask me to enter a number. Does that mean it was not scored?

I'm really upset that I messed up on the second question... If I hadn't my score probably would have been quite a bit higher.

I don't know if I want to take it again... It's probably too late for Fall 2009 anway.

this means that the first one is not scored, but the second quant. is scored.

they use the "insert number question" to make some researches to improve the GRE exams, so, this means that this quant. part is not scored.

i don't know how to advice you about retaking the exam.

but i'm afraid that the style of GRE exam may change, these researches which they are making indicate that they are about to change the GRE exams, i don't know when but this scares me.

so, may be if you have time, money and persistence, it would be better to retake the exam sooner to avoid the problems of changing the exams.

and as you know, the GRE expires after 5 years, so,there is no problem of retaking it sooner.

anyway science420 take your time and think deeply about this issue.
you are the only person who can feel that you are well prepared to retake the exam.

best of luck to you science420
see you soon

Thanks samarfadl!

I decided I'm gonna retake it in a month so I can still apply during this cycle. I hope admissions doesn't look down upon receiving to sets of scores.

Hey, science420 , Bad score in gre quant doesnt mean that u arent cut out for engineering. questions in the GRE can b tricky. Some of the brightest maths and physics majors I know ended up scoring around 650 in the GRE simply because they didnt understand the test very well and didnt take the time to prepare enough. Despite their bad score in quants all of them r doing masters in engineering courses. This score might not get u in top schools but there r plenty of schools out there who will take u. If u r in the US, u should make a trip to some schools of ur choice and meet the professors whose research work interests u. This might help . But dont bother if u dont have enough time. Take the GRE again if u want but there is no reason to believe that u cant get into any engineering school. Gud luck with everything !

Hi,

If you require help on the verbal section, check out GRE Vocabulary Home

After awa section, i was faced with a quant section. The last question of that section was about entering a number in a text box - but with my horror i discovered, i have only 5 sec to answer it. Being nonplus, i passed that 5 seconds, doing nothing . i did not know the last question is a proof of the last section being the experimental one. I remained demoraized during the next verbal section and that mishap affected my verbal score. Following my verbal one i was again faced with a quant section. ummm ... that section was good, anyway.

science420, be confident about your upcoming exam, you will do good. cheers.

Update!

I took the GRE again today and scored 10 points LOWER! I feel like crying.

My scores today were 480V and 790Q. It's weird because as I was taking the test, I thought I did pretty well on verbal and poorly on quant. I spent the last 2 weeks studying my butt off to raise my quant score and I totally ignored verbal. My essays were probably about as good as last time, so I'm expecting a 4.5.

My scores are probably good enough to get me into grad school, but it still sucks. I took a ETS practice exam last night and got a 690V 800Q. I wish I could do that while taking the real thing.
