got 220!!!! in verbal(may be I make a new history)

Hi every1,

Today I have taken my GRE exam. and I just score 220 in verbal!!!!!!!.I have no idea wt’s going wrong during the exam…This is the second time I took gre exam in my previous attempt I received 1220(720_maths+ 500_verbal) and this time I try to increase my maths score which I got 760. But after seeing verbal score I just cry over there. I can’t imagine wt I got..even in my practice test I never get less than 460…… In writing part I got common essay “ to understand the character of a society is to examine the character of the men & women society chooses as its heroes or its heroines." I just glad to see that and find to problem to write down everythg. Then the argument related with some garbage place fill-up problem written in a memo by the city mayor. This part is also going very smooth and I didn’t find any problem with this , then come verbal part with 2 RC question and I am very week in RC and I got nervious as earlier few questions take important part in main score, after that I found everthg ok only struck by one word “cenotaph” in antonym and I hopeful to that at least 450 in this section. After this I got the math section and this part is quite easy than what I expected but I was taking to much time on the earlier question and couldn’t answer the last 4 question. Then again come another verbal section and I was very happy to think that at least GOD give me second change and this part start with antonym andI easily did it and most of the words came from barrons, in fact all of them were from barrons.and I finished my this part less than 2 min to spare.

Then I click to show my score and completely lost!!!!!

Verbal:: 220.
Maths: 760.
In that time I don’t know what to do and I was just crying?????I think the second verbal part is research part and the first one is the final but I score 220!! i.e I correct only one or two question …I don’t believe this and I share this with my frnd and they also astonish about my score….
So, I request the senior who always gone through this forum regularly , please suggest me wt should I do….is there any way to challenge my verbal score…I like to apply MS program in computer science and this score is far below the avg.. For this exam. I took i month leave from my office which may be also hamper my promotion after 2 month and every one in office just wait to know how much I score in GRE and I don’t know how I will face them on tomorrow with this poor score. Is it possible that unofficial may not be correct and when I will receive my official score I will see sthg different . Frankly speaking after all these incident I think I lost everythg and completely distraught my life.
I pray to GOD that nobody will have to face this situation what I feel right now, all of my frnd and family enjoy durga puja near abt our residence and I keep myself lock in a dark room and hoping that it is better to die rather than facing this embarrass situation.

220!!!! in verbal..really may be u r too much unlucky...but as far i know if u don't response anythg u will get 200 then wt does 220 means....

anyway behave like a champion.....better luck in next time

Arifa , your maths score is good. You might have gotten really unluck for the verba part. But i m sure you can improve ur verbal score considering you score 500 in your previous attemp and scored above 460 in all of your practice tests. Sometimes bad things happen to us over which we dont have any control. I suggest u take the GRE again. I m sure u will improve this time.

Hi arifa, you made a diligent effort. I would not advise taking another month off of work for this exam. I also question if you need to take the exam again. Do you absolutely need a higher math score? How do the schools you are going to apply to view a 720 compared to a 760. To me I don't see much of a difference. Instead of wasting more time on this exam, first call the programs you're interested in and ask them how you stand with your score of 1220 and if they take the highest score. A 1220 is above average for most PhD programs, most MS degrees require a 1000.

Hey..

So sorry for ur GRE score...if u are so sure and confident about ur prep wy don u take it again in the next week...i'm sure u wud'nt have forgotten everything so soon. juz one revision n go hit it again...who knows luck may turn ur way this time...

Don worry too much many who took up GRE this month have faced very poor scores in VERBAL...
