1340 (600 Verbal, 740 Quant) AWA Awaited
Hi Everybody, I am not a regular contributor to this forum, but I like a frequent interaction that goes on here!! Just took my examination today. Quant was a bit disappointing, but got only 30 days to study, and I work in an IT company full time for several years, so it was fairly challenging!!
Not hopeful of getting through very good universities in US for Comp Sc with this score (my Toefl was 114/120). What do you say? I should thinking of sitting for the test again? Hopefully with a better practice this time ![]() Regarding vocab, almost all the good resources are pointed out in this forum itself. Especially the combined wordlist of Barron and Kaplan is really helpful. I'll add that try and work on the Princeton wordlist too..! I like that book.. doesn't contain much of substance, but it does teach you to be a smart test taker..! All the best to everybody preparing for GRE..!! For greater benefit, here is an excerpt of one of the PMs I got:
"...could u plz tell me what type of questions were appearing in quant,,,,? people say that GRE has raised its difficulty level ...is it so..." Well, I was a bit surprised with my quant difficulty level.. I expected high school maths, but was warned for surprises beforehand..!! I got problems involving likes of standard normal distribution, and Fibonacci series..! But no excuses for that.. some cool headed thinking can do it I think.. |

mm.. I remember there were three RCs.. scientific, historical..
one was around 95 lines long, one was around 50-60, and another 40. Don't worry, what we say 95 lines is probably 30 lines under normal reading, because the GRE reading area is pretty small and the font size quite big.. ![]() I think total I had around 8-9 qns on RC. Just be a fast reader, and keep your cool; notice for important points, and don't try to read through everything.. this is not like the TOEFL reading passage. Time is the major consideration here, and sometimes the passage does have some hidden clues in it.. as Princeton rightly puts it- it's like a treasure hunt!! Good luck.. ![]() |
